Description
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
As a member of the Development Modernization team, the Senior Cloud Architect will be at the forefront of modernization architecture definition and implementation with a focus on developing new and innovative ways to deliver service and value to our customers within the Digital Business Software organization. This role requires someone with the technical and architectural experience to assess current state of a monolithic legacy environment and develop an effective migration strategy towards end state microservices architecture. The Senior Cloud Architect will operate in a complex architectural landscape and will be responsible for driving the development and cloud migration of mission critical applications with high availability and disaster recovery mechanisms. The Senior Cloud Architect should have a deep experience on Microservice frameworks and creation of cloud native solutions across several cloud providers including PCF, AWS, Azure, and others.

  • Define, design and deliver cloud architecture for enterprise applications hosted or built natively on the cloud and integrate with legacy/on-premises systems.
  • Collaborate with the application, data, and infrastructure architects on defining, designing and delivering cloud specific technical architectures and design patterns
  • Create the conceptual, logical and physical design for cloud-based solutions for infrastructure and platforms.
  • Research, analyze, recommend and select technical approaches to address challenging development and integration problems with cloud environments.
  • Quickly develop understanding of domains, business capabilities and processes.
  • Decompose monolith applications into meaningful implementable Microservices and APIs in a Cloud/DevOps environment.
  • Able to look across the assigned domain to ensure consistent alignment of technical solutions with the business goals and objectives of the supported unit.
  • Provide industry leading technical direction and guidance to various project teams to ensure appropriate and cost-effective application of GM approved technologies.
  • Ensure appropriate and effective data integration across multiple applications.
  • Expected to have a strong working knowledge of various architectural patterns, technologies and architecture management processes.
  • Capable of working with or without direct supervision to develop multi-layered solution architectures that comprehend and specify business, application, data and infrastructure designs.
  • Understands the vision/goals set by senior management and establishes strategic and tactical near-term goals.
  • Research emerging technologies and trends that may affect the enterprise and provide guidance to leadership and technical teams on a periodic basis.
  • Analyze the current business and IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends solutions for improvement.
  • Provide architectural direction and guidance to enterprise architects, business architects, data architects and solution architects.
  • Shall have ability to introduce and accelerate adoption of new technologies and methodologies to support technology transformation initiatives.
  • Embrace and affect domain driven design and architecture principles of security, scale, uptime and reliability.


Additional Description
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or Engineering)
  • At least 12 years' experience in information technology developing and architecting distributed, component-based, service-oriented solutions for an enterprise
  • Experienced in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems in cloud, non-cloud as well as hybrid environments
  • Experience with SOA and Web Service stacks, standards, products and technologies.
  • Expertise in design and development of Java 8, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud applications
  • Experience in designing and implementing Event Driven Architecture pattern
  • Experienced in following industry-proven software engineering practices such as SEI CMMI and agile methods
  • Experience developing and delivering highly available and complex systems
  • Experience with Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD)
  • Experience with high availability technologies that include virtualization, cloud computing, load balancing, clustering, massively horizontally scalable architectures, hosted services, multi-tenant cloud infrastructures, storage systems and content delivery networks.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing portable machine learning applications that deploy within containers is big plus
  • Experience in designing and implementing applications using frameworks like Axon that implements Domain Driven Design, Event sourcing and CQRS patterns
  • Experience in designing and implementing applications using frameworks like AKKA in building highly concurrent, distributed, and resilient message-driven applications
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills and a sense of ownership and drive. Ability to identify and drive to resolution issues and risks.
  • Experience with large cross-functional teams, with a track record of having developed professional documentation - system level diagrams (context, logical, physical, deployment)
  • Ability to make design decisions that balance risk, cost, and architectural purity
  • Experience with failure mode and effects analysis
  • Knowledge of network, database, monitoring, and infrastructure design
  • Experience with security architectures and designs
  • Ability to work constructively as an individual or in groups
