The Talk Mission is responsible for building tools for audio creators. We have three platforms that help us deliver a great creator experience: Anchor - the platform that allows you to create, distribute, monetize, and grow a podcast, all for free), Spotify for Podcasters - the platform that makes it easy to understand and engage with your listeners on Spotify, and Spotify Live - the platform that allows anyone to stream or listen to live audio.

We are looking for thoughtful, well-rounded engineers to join our team and help build tools that hundreds of thousands of podcast creators use every month, powering 80% of all new podcasts globally. You will join a healthy and collaborative team, continuously improving our engineering practices and delivering innovative technology, all while keeping it fun.

We've done a lot already, and we have no plans of slowing down. Come help us build the future of audio creation!

What you'll do

  • Build containerized Node.js services and serverless functions in AWS that support Anchor’s high traffic products
  • Work with your engineering manager and product manager counterparts to review product specs and translate them to engineering tasks
  • Collaborate on tech specs to design scalable, observable, and maintainable systems
  • Write maintainable code through extensive documentation and automated tests
  • Collaborate with SRE and data engineers to manage and evolve every part of our infrastructure including our CDN, file storage systems, databases (RDBMS, NoSQL, and BigQuery), data pipelines, and event producers/consumers
  • Collaborate with your team using industry-standard project management tools and practices
  • Coach, mentor, and support engineers in your domain and across the organization

Who you are

  • You have demonstrable experience building software at scale in a high growth consumer-facing environment
  • You have the ability to try things and iterate quickly
  • You are eager to learn and grow
  • You have a great work ethic and a willingness to try anything and everything
  • You can balance personal ambitions with business needs, and you’re always willing to prioritize whatever is needed to move the product forward
  • You enjoy working autonomously, but you know when to ask for help
  • You work well with cross-functional, agile software development teams
  • Prior experience with Node.js and relational databases (esp MySQL) is a plus, but not required - a desire to learn is enough

Where you'll be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location and is within working hours
  • Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and ask that all be located that time zone
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about about our Work From Anywhere options here.
