Description

Your Opportunity

New Relic is looking for a creative and enterprising Sr. Back-End Software Engineer to build a brand new, greenfield, never-before-seen product . The product will be focused on helping teams contextualize deployments, systems events, CI/CD events, and operational changes with their application telemetry and performance data. You'll also help us build fresh experiences that allow developers and SREs to leverage these data to resolve issues faster. Additionally, your work will help inform how New Relic builds strategic partnerships with leading technology vendors worldwide.

This position offers an opportunity to be a founding member of a team that's starting from scratch to make something completely novel and unrivaled. That means fast growth and ample opportunities to develop new skills. You will also have an opportunity to make an immediate and significant impact on the New Relic One user experience and the success of our strategic initiatives.

You will work closely with product managers, designers, and developers to define and execute on the product roadmap. Your insight, technical expertise, and creativity will help us translate outcomes into deliverables and evolve our vision for this product. Your leadership skills will help cement the product team as a key player within the larger New Relic ecosystem.

What You'll Do

  • Become a founding member of a team tasked with making a new, innovative product, and help foster a creative, collaborative team culture.
  • Write code (of course!)
  • Collaborate with fellow engineers and cross functional product teams to build end-to-end solutions for our customers.
  • Own the entire software development lifecycle-from technical strategy definition to delivery, to end of life.
  • Help translate the product strategy (which is informed by customer and market insights, competitive analysis, our technical capabilities, and internal programs/assets) into actionable developer assignments.
  • Communicate insights and technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders to enable faster strategy iteration.
  • Work in an agile environment with a DevOps approach-teams build and maintain their own software, including taking turns with being on-call.

Opportunity to work from a remote office may be available depending on the applicant's location.

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience using modern object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C#, or C++
  • Experience with relational data stores (such as PostgreSQL)
  • Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, maintainable distributed systems
  • Experience defining and building robust APIs
  • Attention to detail and quality of implementation

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience working on a software product team
  • Experience with test automation tools
  • In-depth Java development experience (e.g. knowledge of how the GC works, multi-threading, etc.)
  • Experience with distributed streaming/messaging systems such as Kafka or SQS
  • Experience developing GraphQL APIs
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code tooling
  • Experience with cloud-based deployments and architecture (especially AWS)
  • Experience with AWS EKS, and/or Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of full-stack software engineering principles
