About the Role:

The Senior Back End Engineer will support our software team, as part of our Digital Science group, a fast-paced organization to design, develop, and implement scalable software solutions. This individual will design and implement applications and databases according to industry best practices to support Genapsys’ cloud-based data platform. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of team members and grow to help push our strategy forward. You will apply your technical skills and creativity in support of our scientific research and development of the Genapsys Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) platform.

Remote candidates based in the United States, as well as those based in the greater Redwood City, CA or Denver, CO areas, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a cross-functional team that’s responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment with focus on API, back-end solution and persistence (DB and Objects)
  • Write high-quality, production-ready Python code (version controlled, readable, efficient, well-tested, with well-designed APIs)
  • Design and develop APIs and server-side solutions on GCP and AWS, based on industry best practices
  • Develop, optimize, and integrate genomics tools into our cloud platform
  • Design, develop, implement and manage applications and databases to address functionality, usability, maintainability, security, scalability and optimized performance
  • Evaluate frameworks, architectures and design principles; select and implement the most effective solution
  • Design effective testing strategies and provide guidance on automation techniques

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, or relevant field
    • Working experience in the life sciences or other scientific industry preferred
  • 5+ years of experience as a software professional
  • 5+ years designing and developing external and internal facing APIs
  • 5+ years implementing microservices and back-end applications including integrating with web applications
  • 5+ years developing high-quality, production-ready code in Python
    • Proficiency in common data science libraries such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas and sklearn highly desired
    • Proficiency in vectorized programming with Numpy desired
  • 3+ years experience reviewing and mentoring junior team members through code review and paired programming
  • 3+ years experience with git and GitHub version control in collaborative environments
  • Knowledge of multiple back-end technologies and frameworks such as Django, Flask, Nginx, MySQL and NoSQL
  • Working knowledge of Public cloud (GCP, AWS) and ability to program and deploy applications to GCP and AWS with Cloud Native application development skills (Cloud Functions, Pub-Sub etc,.) incorporating best security practices

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $120,000 to $187,000 per year depending on the level. This range spans Senior, Staff, and Senior Staff. 

Compensation for this role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location, and may fall outside of the range shown.
