Job Description
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following skills are essential to this role:
API Strategy: Build the API strategy for an enterprise. The strategy must anticipate changing integration requirements of enterprises over a period of time andincorporate them in a future state. Identify gaps in the current state, build a roadmap for initiatives to close the gaps.
API Management - A solid understanding of the process of designing, publishing, documenting, and analyzing APIs in a secure environment. Establish an operations environment in a manner that facilitates process monitoring through safe and secure event logging. Need to be compliant with PCI, HIPPA and other regulations requirements.
API Gateway - Understand the principles of routing, authentication, cached responses. Promote the practice of security patterns like mutual authentication, oAuth, frictionless authentication. Must have a good understanding of implementing security policies and establish DDoS to thwart malicious attacks.
Developer Portal - Manage the web service portfolio with a product management approach. Catalog web services in a product oriented fashion and promote ease of consumption. Must have a deep, intuitive understanding of the principles of API consumption and implement a developer portal that promotes self-registration, self-service, and enhances the ease of consumption in the developer community. Must take responsibility for implementing monetization of web services.
Business Services Layer: Understand the concepts of different granularities of web services and design and build out the portfolio of services in a manner that encourages consumption. Must be familiar with Open API specifications and other standard bodies like BIAN. Must champion guiding principles in the design and implementation of web services, follow and institute operational best practices, and build compliance to security guiding principles. Must establish solid QA practices through execution of best practices in different forms of testing. Must anticipate performance requirements across the portfolio of services based on estimated consumption patterns and ensure operations stability.
Business metrics: Design and build metrics through which KPIs can be measured to monitor API usage and implement monetization.
Internal and partner APIs - Build out a foundation of reusable web services following robust microservices architecture. Establish best practices in implementing enterprise integration patterns and help reduce the complexity of overall IT landscape.
Public Facing APIs- Understand the complexities of building public facing APIs and establish safe, secure consumption patterns.
Business Development: Discover new products and web services for existing customers. Identify growth opportunities at prospective customers. Integrate acquired and 3rd party capabilities seamlessly to enable speed-to-market. Enhance rapid innovation by leading the organization to access and leverage external web services.
Customer engagement - play an important role in understanding customer business requirements, anticipate their needs for web services, enhance portfolio of web services to address those requirements, and outline the roadmap for seamless onboarding and ongoing operations.
Must be comfortable in dealing with ambiguity. Display an obsession to customer service. Show the ability to take ownership end-to-end. Skilled in identifying conflicts and resolving them.

An expert in the field, uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters. Works on issues that impact design/selling success or address future concepts, products or technologies. Creates formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the organization. Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.
