About Android Platform at Airbnb:

The Android Platform engineering team builds systems, tools, and frameworks that enable Airbnb to ship world class iOS and Android applications. By delivering fast local builds, reliable continuous integration, and productivity enhancing tooling, the Android Platform team is deeply involved in empowering Airbnb engineers to succeed. The team works closely with other Infrastructure teams to build shared tooling around builds, flaky test detection, code coverage and more.

About the role:

We are looking for Android engineers to help us improve each step of the product development lifecycle. You will get the unique opportunity to work alongside many product teams while iterating on our tooling. You will have a wide breadth of areas to provide impact for such as improving build speeds, CI infrastructure, and IDE capabilities.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Collaborating with other Android engineers to design, build, and deliver high impact tooling and frameworks
• Following data-driven approaches to improve the development experience for Airbnb Android engineers
• Identifying areas of improvement and drive mobile best practices
• Providing mobile expertise and guidance for infrastructure projects

Sample projects on Android Platform:

• Supporting testing tooling for our Android testing suite and helping protect against regressions
• Automating release management software in order to deliver frequent app updates
• Building custom Airbnb CLI and Android Studio plugins to simplify developer workflow, improve velocity, and ultimately ship code faster
• Optimizing Gradle builds for fast configuration and execution leading to faster iteration cycles
• Maintaining a fast, scalable, Docker backed CI system used to test and ship code changes

What we are looking for:

• 5+ years industry experience
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
• Experience shipping one or more Kotlin or Java Android apps, ideally currently available in the Play Store
• Personal projects that show an aptitude for technical excellence and product sense
• Ability to work in areas outside of your usual comfort zone and show motivation for personal growth
• Solid engineering and coding skills. Understanding of basic data structures and asynchronous programming
• Interest in innovations within the mobile industry
