As a Senior Advanced Design Engineer, you will be focused on new architecture design and development in commercial and electric vehicle propulsion solutions. The primary responsibility is to establish and develop new architecture designs and to support the development, testing, and release of vehicle propulsion solutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop "clean sheet" transmission power flow architectures as well as component designs using sound engineering principles, GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Perform engineering calculations: component loading, stress, and life calculations for general sizing efforts
  • Direct and collaborate with CAD designers to develop new product concepts
  • Develop Bill of Materials
  • Design new parts in CAD, review FEA results and make design judgements based on those results: components may include shafts, gears, flanges and other torque carrying components
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of new designs and modifications to components and sub-systems
  • Support and solve component deviation requests, durability, and other field issues
  • Determine appropriate DVP&R level to validate the product and execute to completion by initiating test requests, supporting data review and interpretation, and a thorough review of test reports
  • Support DFMEA, PFMEA activity and assessment to Best Practices to guide product design; including either generation of new or modification of existing
  • Develop a solid understanding of the manufacturing and assembly aspects of design
  • Work with suppliers, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality Engineers to support cost reduction, sourcing decisions, and design changes
  • Work with internal advanced analysis group as required
  • Other duties as assigned



EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in design of powertrain components
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems and torque carrying components and devices
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Strong oral and written business communication skills
  • Strong organization and analytical ability
