Job Responsibilities

The Software Security Engineer will be responsible for supporting multiple commercial and government systems and products. The role is expected to bridge the gap between security engineering and software product development. This role will play an essential part in the FIPS certification effort for multiple Viasat products and is expected to have a significant influence on major architectural decisions.

Requirements

  • Understanding of cryptographic approaches used to provide confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and availability to secure communications
  • Experience with software security architecture and applied cryptographic algorithms in an embedded system
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and suggest modifications to a complex embedded SW architecture for security enhancements or other
  • Ability to assess risk and balance project requirements against necessary security controls
  • Demonstrated software development with 3+ years' design and implementation experience with embedded software in C/C++
  • Systems Engineering experience with complex, scalable, distributed systems infrastructure and technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent discipline
  • US Citizenship required



Preferences

  • 3+ years of practical security experience
  • Experience working in a DevSecOps, and/or Agile Scrum environment
  • Proven knowledge of networking protocols
  • Solid understanding of PKI core concepts and technologies
  • Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Security certifications (i.e., CISSP, SANS, GCSA, GPEN, OCSP, OSWE, CEH)
  • Experience with any government and industry compliance regimes (i.e., PCI, HIPPA, GDPR, SOX, FEDRAMP, NIAP)
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret and above clearance
  • Experience bringing a product through the FIPS 140-2 certification process



If the Federal Executive Order for Government Contractors becomes effective, this role may require vaccination. In such instance, absent an approved accommodation based on a religious or medical reason, employees in this role will be required to be fully vaccinated no later than applicable deadlines, which are unknown at this point. Viasat will strive to give individuals as much notice as practicable if a vaccine mandate becomes applicable to this role.
