Overview

We are looking for a full-time Security Engineering Manager in Novi, MI. on our Core Technology Engineering team at our site in Novi, MI. (This is not a remote position, and will require about 25% travel to our HQ location in Kansas City). In this role, you will be responsible for leading the deployment of Security in alignment with Agile and architectural complexity and planning necessary activities for security-related development in accordance with applicable security standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Lead the security process definition and implementation as well as developing a plan for product security compliance
  • Possess a working knowledge in many engineering disciplines - spanning hardware, software, and industrialization - with an embedded focus
  • Focus on hardening products including deploying technical resources to conduct analyses to define the attack surface of the product, architect solutions to mitigate findings, and collaborate with appropriate technical leaders to implement the solutions
  • Possess knowledge in security attributes (e.g., CIA, principle of least privilege), threat and risk analysis (TARA) - hardware and software (ISO 31000), vulnerability management, and open-source threat intelligence (NVD, CVE, CWE)
  • Possess knowledge in CVSS scoring, secure development lifecycle, static analysis, penetration testing, cryptographic principles (authentication, encryption, nonrepudiation), digital rights management (DRM), and familiarity with both red and blue team tactics
  • Act as a Manager providing leadership and directing the activities of a team to meet business priorities and commitments
  • Participate in recruiting activities to grow the security organization based on product plans, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team
  • Review project status and reports, provide feedback and direction to the engineering staff as needed, and facilitate communication with top management and other departments
  • Define and implement processes to align Garmin's security culture with security standards and support external audits
  • Directly supervise various levels of team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
  • Conduct reviews, audits, and assessments with product teams to ensure security standards are being met throughout product development cycles
  • Work with security experts throughout Garmin to analyze applicable standards and regulations as appropriate
  • Lead, conceive, implement, and maintain processes and tools that improve the quality and scalability of the team's services
  • Serve as a point of contact for executive leaders and collaborate with technical leadership on security topics
  • Define and deploy processes to align with industry trends and regulatory requirements, drive engineer process improvements, and maintain focus on continuous improvements


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering OR a minimum of ten years relevant work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience as an engineering manager
  • Previous experience managing a product (IoT) security team and proven experience with motivating and developing engineering talent
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, analytical, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, critical thinker, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Impeccable business judgment and decision-making abilities, as well as exceptional time management and a high level of initiative, energy and drive with a results-oriented track record and commitment to success
  • Visionary driving both the technical teams and peer groups toward a common vision for Garmin
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills combined with excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate with and relate to a highly engaged and technical management team
  • Proven ability to operate with discretion and protect highly confidential information
  • Flexible and adaptable with an ability to envision strategic opportunities in a highly dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer needs and lead collaborative efforts to determine product direction
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage technical human resources across different time zones and geographies
  • Must possess demonstrated detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in C and/or C++
  • Detailed knowledge of systems design and software development methodology and it's application to overall system design
  • Customer focused and data driven approach with demonstrated end to end delivery and innovation
  • Experience working in agile environments with cross-functional delivery teams

Desired Qualifications

  • Obtained applicable certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISA, CISM, CEH, Security+, GSEC, SSCP)
