The SDV team supports the definition, design, and development of continuously improving mobility services. SDV is new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road! This space is ripe with technical leadership opportunities for advanced technology development, as well as the ability to provide mentorship for new employees. You can flex your collaboration muscles as you will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering, IT, and the business.
GM is searching for a high-performing individual to support SDV. As we expand our core software proficiency in our newly aligned organization, we are placing an increased value on the SW Application Architect responsibilities.
Role Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Technical leader who will become part of Software Defined Vehicle Global Vehicle Data services organization. This role requires extensive knowledge of software development technologies, techniques and processes. The successful candidate will work independently working in Architecting, Slicing, prioritizing, Designing and providing technical direction to multiple agile teams to build a platform by demonstrating software assets that has been built to make it externally accessible to tackle new domains and integrate with the bigger GM eco-system. The individual must be a self-starter who can take a concept and drive it through to the design and implementation. The individual will be solving hard engineering problems on a day-to-day basis. The individual will be creative and be able to grow and extend the product capabilities as we grow around Autonomous Vehicle/Electric Vehicle space in the years to come. The individual will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of individuals of different levels of experience who will be driving new software and/or software improvements across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architectural evolution of SDV Data pipeline both invehicle and back-office edge/cloud platforms for connected vehicle initiatives
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in Data service developments End 2 End from vehicle to back office and vice versa in all emerging connected vehicle domains
  • Independently drive the End to End feature development in SDV.
  • Get involved in every phase of software development from requirements to product support.
  • Live and advocate DevOps principles for the entirety ensuring faster delivery, innovation, customer satisfaction, quality, reliability & teamwork.
  • Come up with well analyzed & designed technical solutions and ensure that they are implemented as designed.
  • Come up with detailed technical stories that can be taken up for implementation into sprints.
  • Commit to quality in every phase of software development and promote quality attitude in every person of the team.
  • Able to analyze any operational issues by deep diving into the problem and come up with quick solutions.
  • Ensure availability, scalability, extensibility, maintainability, and reusability for production-intended designs
  • Research new technologies and solutions that drives the org into advanced technical space.
  • Drive for automation in the whole software development lifecycle by providing Continuous Development, Continuous Testing & Continuous Integration.
  • Represent the team to the external teams and user community in discussions involving requirements, architecture, systems integration, platform upgrades or operations.
  • Analyze requirements for feasibility, conduct thorough impact analysis & mitigate any risks identified.
  • Capture design and functionality in architectural & design documents
  • Write API / events specifications for different interfaces within the SDV Org.
  • Collaborate with development teams to elaborate requirements and designs into technical stories
  • Lead & conduct multiple technical forums for design discussions / DevOps processes / Operational Challenges across development teams
  • Promote design guidelines and coding practices to improve quality and reusability
  • Work with leadership to identify continuous improvement opportunities for the whole organization, from both technical and process perspective.
  • Mentor & guide multiple teams on domain knowledge, design and development practices

Additional Description
Basic Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • At least 10 years developing enterprise or other large-scale systems
  • At least 5 years in a senior technical position as a lead or an architect.
  • Hands on experience in Service Oriented Architecture and Microservices principles using domain driven architecture.
  • Hands on Experience in developing distributed systems using Java/J2EE/Microservices using Big data technologies in cloud environments.
  • Experience in Android Embedded technologies.
  • Experience with Vehicle Telematics & Communications including OTA.
  • Experience with Cloud technologies Azure/Akamai etc.
  • Experience with integrating invehicle components (between different ECU's and modules), AUTOSAR.
  • Experience with various architectural styles, such as n-tier enterprise / Web, distributed, and micro-services
  • Experience with various system integration mechanisms such as RESTful APIs, Event Driven Architect and file-transfers.
  • Experience working in Choreographic EDA using Pub/Sub mechanisms.
  • Experience working with Media Streaming, file transfers, Data transfer mechanism across different channels cloud/Edge/backoffice. - WebSocket, webRTC, grpc, mqtt/DDS etc.,
  • Strong expertise in Security/security protocols.
  • Hands on experience with in-memory databases and stream-based ML.
  • Good experience working with cloud platforms.
  • Good understanding of DEVOPS principles and willing to drive it.
  • Hands on operational experience supporting user community.
  • Experience exposing core capabilities of an organization externally through API design.
  • Expert knowledge in software development practices and methodologies.
  • Understanding of evolution, degradation, and maintenance of software over time.
  • Analytical skills to recognize related technical problems and propose a generic solution.
  • Good understanding of computer and networking fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Analysis and Design
  • Experience in UML and software design documentation
  • Self-motivated, proactive, creative and team oriented
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and able to communicate ideas to developers
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in the telematics and connected vehicles domain
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed

Preferred Experience:
  • Master's degree in a related technical field
  • Experience with android and java development
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification
  • Experience with GIT/source code management, open source SW development/contributor
  • Experience with network engineering, telecommunications, network development and testing
  • Experience with edge, cloud, IoT technologies, virtualization technologies, containerization/container development, Android App development
