What You'll Do
MTD Products is seeking a Robotic Software Engineer to support the electrification of outdoor power equipment designs. As a Robotics Software Engineer you'll be part of our Stanley Black and Decker, MTD Products Electrical Systems Engineering Product Development Team located in Indianapolis, In.

You'll get to:
• Design and develop robotics software, simulator, diagnostic tools, and automated testing software for autonomous mowers.• Collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers in the development of the software and electrical systems for outdoor power equipment.• Generate engineering requirements, specifications, and design documents; author and execute test. plans/processes for software verification and validation; document and present results.

The ideal candidate will have experience with a subset of the following:• Experience in embedded Linux systems (Ex. Yocto, Buildroot)• Knowledge of functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 60730, and related standards.• Agile software development; test-driven development process.• Understanding of software lifecycle, coding standards, and git-based CI/CD software tools (Ex. Docker, Bitbucket, Pipeline, JIRA, Confluence).• Excellent time and project management skills including task estimation and project planning.

Work Environment: • Willing to work on outdoor power equipment in outdoor environment when needed. • Able to lift (up to 40lb), reach, bend otherwise work on and around outdoor power equipment such as lawn tractors, snow throwers and handheld power tools.

Travel:
The position requires some travel (10%), primarily domestically with some international travel.

• M.S./PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. MTD will consider applicants with B.S. and an equivalent level of work experience.• Knowledge of autonomy-related algorithms for mobile robotics such as path planning, SLAM, motion control, sensor fusion, collision detection and avoidance.• Familiarity with a Data Distribution Service such as the Robot Operating System (ROS) software framework.• 3+ years' experience of programing experience in C/C++, scripting languages such python and bash, java, gcc/g++, make/cmake build tools, and Linux operating system. • Strong skills in modular design and coding.
