Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking a Rail Engineer to join our KY/TN/AR team. This position can be based out of any office within in the area footprint. The primary duties of the Rail Engineer are to lead the development of track and civil design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of mainline, industrial, yard and terminal projects with Class I railroads, shortlines, industrial and transit clients. Civil and track engineering assignments may include geometrics, drainage and utilities tasks and coordination with other disciplines. Project management responsibilities may include managing project scope, budget and schedule as well as development of design criteria, project guides, project meeting notes, and project controls. Candidate must be able to direct and mentor junior staff, manage small projects and assist as lead rail engineer on larger projects as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-office team. Position may require periodic client visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspection, as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 7 or more years of experience in railway engineering and multidisciplinary railway projects
  • PE
  • Experience using InRoads, InRail, and/or Geopak required.
  • Skilled in technical writing, communicating and presenting to clients and the public
  • Computer literate with MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
