Your Role and Responsibilities
We are looking to fill a position in the Quantum Computing division at IBM. Specific job duties would be centered around development and demonstration of low-error, scalable approaches to controlling, calibrating, and operating quantum systems. Goals may include working with a combination of hardware, firmware and software developers to optimize the performance of qubit control systems, developing and demonstrating capabilities related to quantum algorithms and error correction, and assisting with operation, troubleshooting, and control automation of quantum hardware systems. The ideal candidate for this position would have expertise in working with both hardware and software aspects of quantum computing systems, comfort collaborating with large and diverse teams, and self-motivation to identify needs and drive projects to completion.

This position is located in the Rochester, MN area or remote.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Completion of a graduate program in a field relevant to quantum computing
  • Computer programming, preferably in Python
  • Control of instruments for data acquisition from quantum/low-temperature systems
  • Data analysis, e.g. using Python's numpy and scipy or equivalent


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Working knowledge of concepts in quantum algorithms and/or error correction
  • Superconducting qubit characterization and calibration
  • Development of robust software for automated data acquisition and analysis
  • Git and Github usage
