Orion Quantitative Engineers are responsible for ongoing development and maintenance of in-house financial calculations, including cashflow and balance sheet calculations, Monte Carlo simulations, and optimization processes.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Maintain and update the in-house financial calculations for the financial planning process, including modeling investment portfolios and personal finances. Changes are commonly driven by new regulations, annual tax updates, infrastructure updates, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Build in-house APIs to provide portfolio and strategy specific cashflow and balance sheet calculations (Swagger, REST, .NET Core) for financial advisors.
  • Update backend calculations for specific client requests.
  • Work alongside Product Managers and Designers to ensure correct and clear communication of financial results to clients via the Advizr app.
  • Assist the support team when they receive queries regarding financial plans.
  • Maintain Monte-Carlo calculations for financial plan forecasting.


Skills Needed to Perform the Job

  • Fluent in a functional programming language (preferably F#, Haskell, or OCaml)
  • Knowledge of financial calculations, portfolio management techniques (volatility, asset allocation, etc.) and/or financial products (bonds, equities, annuities, insurance, etc.)
  • Ability to work with databases using SQL / NoSQL
  • Comfortable with back-end web development (ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core)
  • Writes clean code, thinks about good architecture (think SOLID)
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Able to communicate well in English (written & oral)
  • Willing and able to adapt to changes in priorities and requirement


Education Needed to Perform the Job

  • A Bachelors or Masters in a quantitative field (Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science)
  • Or CFP certificate or prior experience in the financial planning industry


Experience Needed to Perform the Job

  • Minimum of 2 years of prior related experience in the technology, fintech, or financial industry required
  • 2+ years of experience working with F#/.NET preferred
  • Experience with version control systems (git & GitHub preferred)
  • Prior experience in the financial industry (2+ years preferred)
  • Knowledge of web-based programming techniques and architectures (MVC) or experience with Amazon Web Services
