Company Overview:

Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

Relativity seeks a Propulsion Test Technician—Instrumentation, to join our growing team at the NASA Stennis E4 Test Facility. Our mission is to change the way rockets are built and flown—you will be assisting this mission by working with our team in the installation and operation of data and control systems, instrumentation and mechanical hardware required for testing rocket structures and engines. You will be reporting directly to the Propulsion Test Technician Supervisor, Tom Walters.

The Stennis team at Relativity Space is responsible for designing, building, and operating world-class test stands to support the Terran 1 stages, engines, and propulsion components. As part of this team, you will help build and operate massive outdoor test stands at the historic Stennis Space Center on the Gulf Coast, the largest rocket engine test complex in the country. Unique to this location, you will have the opportunity to get hands-on the fully integrated engine and stage assemblies, push the hardware to the limits, and witness rocket engines firing up close and personal! This team is critical to the launch success of Terran 1, among many other firsts!

What you’ll do:

You will support the installation and operation of Data and Control System hardware and various instrumentation required to create an operational test stand. Once the test stand is functional, you will provide system level troubleshooting and procedural support while conducting tests on flight hardware. Additional test cells are being planned and you will be directly involved through the build process. These activities will ultimately lead to the successful buildout and full activation of the E4 facilities for our future testing needs.

What you need to know:

The ideal candidate should have experience in industries such as oil and gas, aviation, and/or Aerospace test sites. You should have extensive experience in installing, verifying, and troubleshooting sensors that measures temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, and vibration. Oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multi-meters are just a few of the tools that you should already know how to operate.

  • Operational knowledge of basic electrical/electronic circuits and components.
  • Operational knowledge of transducers used to measure temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, and vibration
  • Operational knowledge of oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multi-meters
  • Basic understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Basic knowledge of Wheatstone bridge theory, ability to apply Ohms’ law, and an understanding of basic analog and digital electronics.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, P&ID’s, CAD drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and make repairs to instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio)
  • Basic understanding of low voltage AC power distribution systems.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience building and/or operating a rocket engine test stand.
  • Experience installing network based equipment and wiring/fiber.
  • Experience with installing and maintaining IP cameras and communication systems.
  • Familiar with harnessing techniques using military type connectors.
  • Basic understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and IEC 61131
  • Familiar with intrinsically safe instrumentation installation in hazardous area
