Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). Position Description:

Our JSEG Team Leads serve as first line supervisors reporting directly to the Department Manager and/or Deputy Department Manager, and oversee the Task Orders and personnel that support the requirements defined in the ESSCA Performance Work Statement, plus any additional skills that may be required as the ESSCA contract matures. Task management includes working with the customer to define scope, developing schedules and estimates, and tracking against the task order plan. They ensure that high performing people are acquired through disciplined human resources processes and are appropriately trained, developed and perform to Jacobs' policy and standards. Team Leads are responsible for the proactive management of assigned Task Orders and personnel to ensure effective accomplishment of NASA MSFC requirements.

The Propulsion Modeling and Simulation Team Lead position for this requisition will be focused on the supervision and management of skills and task orders supporting the Propulsion Systems Modeling and Simulation Branch at MSFC. In this role, you will support various NASA project by conducting various propulsion performance analyses, trade studies, and tool development efforts.

Responsibilities of Team Leads supporting the Propulsion Systems Department include:

  • Lead a strong and high performing team that drives employee awareness and commitment to personal safety, mission success and client satisfaction.
  • Identify and manage cost/technical/schedule risks to ensure accomplishment of Task Order requirements, NASA ESSCA goals and objectives, and support the JSEG process and requirements.
  • Implement the JSEG safety program for the team and lead by example in our Beyond Zero culture. Including fully utilizing the JSEG safety recognition programs.
  • Provide oversight of individual and team technical performance. This may include directly supporting tasks as an individual technical team member, providing technical expertise in a discipline, establishing and implementing processes in the JSEG Performance Management System (JPMS), and confirming the technical quality of the work products generated by team personnel.
  • Ensure that tasks and subtasks are estimated correctly and resource loaded and that task and subtask technical, schedule and financial performance meet or exceed customer expectations per the JSEG tools provided.
  • Train and develop team personnel thru on-the-job training, strategic technical assignments, peer-to-peer training, classes, etc.
  • Perform hiring functions to meet team support requirements: define position requirements; conduct candidate recruiting; lead interviewing and selection; and perform on-boarding activities.
  • Establish and oversee specialty subcontracting requirements in collaboration with the JSEG Business and Finance Office (BFO) to include coordination of task assignments and performance. Development of subcontractor Statements of Work (SOW), and management of subcontractors and Jacobs' Intersegment Work Agreements (IWAs).
  • Apply analytical, design, and test tools to provide state-of-art capability to MSFC and consistency across our entire staff. Support staff in the development of innovative processes and projects, including support to the JSEG Innovative Grant Activities (IGA)
  • Conduct special projects as assigned by Department Manager/ Deputy Department Manager or Office of the Program Manager.



Note: This Team Lead position requires a technical leader and will be required to provide direct technical support to the objectives of the task order.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Degree in a Scientific, Engineering or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in technical discipline is required. Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. An MS or Ph.D. degree is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 4 years of experience, Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or BS with at least 10 years of experience.

Requirements for Team Leads supporting the Propulsion Systems Department include:

  • Technical expertise in a propulsion related field with emphasis on analysis tool development.
  • Required experience with various software languages used in typical propulsion performance tools.
  • Broad customer and professional network in the field of technical expertise is preferred. Participation in professional societies, e.g. AIAA, ASME IEEE, NSBE, SHPE, SWE, etc. is preferred.
  • Experience with leading strong and high performing teams.
  • Experience in project management with specific experience in project planning, estimating, and tracking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). May require travel in the domestic USA (
Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to walk between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%). Stairs or elevators can gain access.

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment (100%). Professional grooming and dress appropriate for a leadership position are expected and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. A strong focus on personnel safety is mandatory and expected from every JSEG leader.
