We have an exciting opportunity for a Project/Test Engineer, Gateway Life Support Systems to work with JETS teammate company, Aerodyne Industries.

This is a temporary position not to exceed the fiscal year.

** We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews. **

The selected candidate will:

  • Support the development and qualification of a flight hardware fabrication and assembly process for life support system hardware
  • Develop detailed test plans and procedures to qualify the new process and release test report
  • Develop detailed fabrication work instructions
  • Perform engineering and testing functions in transferring property, procurement, fabrication/assembly, and testing and issue resolution of controlled hardware items and test fixtures
  • Investigate and analyze testing/hardware anomalies and implement corrective actions.
  • Organize and prepare for testing at JSC including the development and coordination of the test readiness review package
  • Coordinate with matrix organizations and vendors in support of the above activities
  • Work in a team environment, and report to a more senior engineer or project manager for technical support, task assignment
  • Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks
  • Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions
  • Perform other duties as required



Qualifications

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines
  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material/equipment selection, qualification testing, design software and tools, and office software
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules and to work independently
  • Experience with NASA/JSC organizations, processes, and procedures



Requisition Preferences:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of three years (3) years of

    related engineering experience
  • Experience with flight or controlled hardware or fabrication and testing processes of such hardware

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
