Role Summary
The Project Engineer position involves the technical oversight of design, analysis, development, test & evaluation of electrical and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include hardware circuit level design, system engineering and requires management of new and existing hardware products. The Project Engineer will be responsible to work within a multi-disciplined engineering team. The individual will work closely with the Program Manager, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and other departments as necessary to expedite project completion and most importantly meet the program expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop circuitry / schematics and wiring diagrams for electrical control module integration
- Work according to standard automotive Electrical Engineering product development processes; APQP, DFMEA, Design Review, Functional Safety
- Support selection and specification of electrical and electronics components.
- Review documentation (BOM's, DBC file, lists, schematics, diagrams, sketches, drawings, procedures, and notes), supplier documentation and/or data sheets for design feasibility and alternative sources; Develop device transmittal documents for internal use.
- Conduct, coordinate, and track E/E hardware root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Formally release work products (specifications, designs) into use, including appropriate internal and customer-specific sign-off and release steps.
- Support Technical Design Reviews within Magna R&D and with customers; TDRs will be expected at the Concept, Detailed Design, and Production Sign-off stages.
- Support development and execution of test plans for verifying electrical hardware.
- Support the Quality and Reliability efforts (e.g., DFMEA, Robustness Assessments, Key-Life Testing) relative to E/E hardware design and manufacturing.
- Support the evaluation of technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and related specifications
- Identify and adequately document issues; own issues and support issue resolution including the verification and release process to meet program deadlines.
- Maintain project schedules by monitoring project progress, co-coordinates activities, and calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements and resolving problems. Prepare and present project progress reports
- Support Testing & Validation activities by specifying test requirements, acceptance criteria & ensure tests are completed on time and to specification
- Support the creation and execution of Target/Test Matrix & P/DFMEA documents - performs data analysis of results to draw conclusions and formulate recommendations
- Interpret technical specifications from OEMS and other sources
- Contribute to team effort by providing innovative ideas for products and processes and by sharing new information with others team members
- Support the development of innovative components and modules from the initial concept phase through the complete development process including design engineering, validation, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of the proposed production capable process and business case
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering; Master of Science degree preferred.
- 1 - 3 years of experience as a Project Engineer
- Recent experience with electrical design, as well as team leadership experience is a plus.
- Experience with developing product architecture and functional product definition
- Experience in all aspects of the Design & Development of Automotive E/E systems.
- Working knowledge of circuit simulation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and others
- Knowledge of product development procedures and processes
- Strong organizational skills
Additional Information
- Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office, workshop / lab environment and manufacturing plant, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer
- Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time; both domestic and international travel is required
