Job summary
The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for a Principal Telecommunications Architect specialized in telecommunications network function virtualization (NFV) to join us. In this role, you will passionately manage the adoption of Red Hat's 5G/RAN platform solutions in our key telecommunications service provider customers. Through a series of in-person and remote interactions you will win the trust and confidence of their customer's engineering, development, and operations teams by aligning their requirements and use cases with the functional capabilities of Red Hat's solutions. To succeed, you need to bring a wealth of industry experience and domain expertise to play a leading role in the design and project delivery of these business critical solutions. You will also play a critical role in bringing together cross-functional teams from Red Hat's product business units, product engineering, support, consulting, and sales to meet the needs of these demanding customers. Additionally, you will act as a customer advocate with these organizations to architect the right solutions and to ensure that those solutions are implemented and supported in an innovative and reliable way. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary job responsibilities

  • Win the confidence of our strategic customers through the successful delivery of discovery, analysis, and design workshops that shape and influence the customer's use cases and architecture design decisions to align with the Red Hat solution
  • Provide ongoing technical leadership to a dedicated team of consultants responsible for evolving and continuously improving the customer's cloud network platforms
  • Design and scope delivery projects as well as lead consulting teams through successful customer pilot and production deployments
  • Design technical content that enables the broader Red Hat organization to sell, service, and support our NFV solutions at scale
  • Work closely with product business units, product engineering, consulting, support, and sales teams to ensure a world-class customer experience with Red Hat's products
  • Contribute to the development of repeatable methodologies and tools designed to scale Red Hat's services capabilities, promote repeatable customer engagements, and lower delivery risk
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in the telco community by producing world-class whitepapers, webinars, etc., and speaking at industry leading conferences


Required skills

  • Specific knowledge in mobile (5G, 4G, 3G, 2G) or fixed networks (network architectures, service models, service provisioning)
  • Knowledge of one or more communications service provider markets
  • Familiarity with technologies like OpenStack, Kubernetes, Docker, Open VSwitch, etc.
  • Experience interacting with partners and navigating the complexities of integration
  • Specific knowledge in NFV/SDN area (benefits, technologies, key vendors, use cases)
  • Understanding of advanced networking concepts (data center and wide area networking, tunneling technologies and overlay networking, security policies, topology discovery, path computation)
  • Proven record of working in a strategic advisory capacity to senior telco network and business executives
  • Ability to self-study and quickly learn and put into practice new topics
  • Demonstrated passion for open source, software, tooling, and automation
  • Proven ability to work seamlessly with distributed cross-functional teams to achieve success on behalf of customers
  • Solid background in consultative customer engagements with either a major systems integrator, a network equipment provider, or a telco services provider
  • Deep understanding of ETSI NFV architecture and the telco main use-cases (vCPE, vEPC, vCDN, vIMS, vRAN, etc.)
  • Degree in electrical, telecommunications, or other network-related engineering, or equivalent industry certification (CCNP, JCNP, etc.)
  • Willingness for domestic and international travel in line with Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines


The following will be considered a plus:

  • Practical experience with Red Hat products
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, 802.1Q, GRE, VXLAN, GENEVE, L2VPN, MPLS, BGP, IS-IS. LACP, DHCP, DNS, NTP, PTP etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of major industry standards: TMF, TNM, ETSI, ITU, 3GPP, ONF, ONRF, etc.
  • Working knowledge of data path acceleration like SR-IOV, DPDK, VPP/fd.io
  • Solid knowledge of telco business processes related to BSS and OSS operations (eTOM, FrameworX, ITIL)
  • Scripting or programming knowledge (Puppet, Ruby, Python, Golang, etc.)
