Position Overview
The Principal Systems Engineer role has primary responsibility for designing and development of server based solutions for Microsoft Windows Server OS / VMWARE/ Unix / Linux / Storage platforms in our enterprise environments along with other infrastructure solutions. But also provides guiding principals and leadership to engineering teamss. Guiding technical solutions, providing proactive assistance on project based activities. General duties include leading buildout of solutions to standards as defined by the organization. Partners with management and other engineers to provide technical support using their background to take on entry level work assignments the team is engaged in. Strong people skills and the ability to balance a large work load are essential.
Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a team of Engineers to identify and build out necessary long-term strategy for the team
  • Lead a team of Engineers and provide coaching and technical guidance for team Proactive design and deployment of server based solutions
  • Administer and support core technologies (e.g. Microsoft, Citrix, VMware, Redhat)
  • Assist in defining and documenting best practices and support procedures
  • Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation
  • Stay current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommend ways to take advantage of new technology
  • Assist in conducting research and making recommendations on Windows Server / VMWARE / Unix / Linux / Storage / Recovery products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Work closely with various business users to define solutions that meet user expectations
  • Strong customer focus and management of client expectations; ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in IT's knowledge of and concern for users' business needs. Shows signs of guiding and offering problem solving for group and peers.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to present and explain technical information to diverse types of audiences (management, users, vendors, technical staff) in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding. Ability to write clear proposals and technical documents
  • Strong interpersonal skills at all levels of management and ability to motivate employees/teams to apply skills and techniques to solve dynamic problems; excellent teamwork skills


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • Experience building and deploying server based solutions
  • Experience using/leveraging server virtualization technologies like VMWare Server/ESX, Microsoft HyperV/Virtual Server or equivalent
  • Experience managing HPE technologies like Proliant Servers, Synergy and Nimble technologies.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server / VMWARE/ Unix / Linux / Storage / Recovery enterprise performance monitoring, backup\recovery methods and disaster recovery scenarios


Highly desirable certifications for this position:

  • CompTIA Server+
  • Linux Professional Institute (LPI): LPIC System Administrator
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization
