Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RI&S) is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to work in a dynamic Agile development environment for modernizing science-driven applications to operate on cloud platforms. The team is based out of Riverdale, MD and full-time telecommuting is available for the position.

As a Principal Systems Engineer, your duties will include:• Executing and creating debugging practices in a distributed virtual environment• Surveying teams of scientists focused on reforecast, reanalysis, and retrospective activities• Assessing community-based and operational workflows running in cloud environments, along with porting activities of all cloud environments, to help stakeholders determine which cloud environments make the most sense for a budget-conscious community.

Security Clearance:
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Required Skills:• Simulation and modeling experience in a cloud or on-prem• Automated scripting and metrics collection experience, via performance monitoring and/or testing• Debugging experience with compiled, parallel codes (MPI, OpenMP, pthreads)• Lifecycle Development experience, including requirements, design, development, and testing• Experience using programming languages such a s Fortran, Python, or C++, within an Agile environment• In-depth knowledge of application hosting, with at least 3 years of experience using cloud services in a Commercial Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) or Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environment• Communicate technical information to management and the scientific community, verbally and written

Desired Skills:• Experience with coupled modeling systems and frameworks• Experience with weather models

Required Education & Experience:
8 years of relevant experience with a BS degree (Typically STEM focused - Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics); or
6 years of relevant experience with a MS degree (Typically STEM focused - Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
