Principal Systems Development Engineer/PowerFlex Escalation Engineer

Our Escalation Engineering team ensures that our hyperconverged infrastructure customers have the software systems they need for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we bridge the gap between customer support, field services and software developers to identify software systems modifications as well as enhancements of new products. We understand and troubleshoot complex software systems when our customers and internal users exceed the expected bounds of operations. We can identify areas for enhancement and improvement and represent the needs of the customer in the software development lifecycle and planning process.

What you'll achieve
As a Principal Systems Development Engineer/Escalation Engineer, you will have a deep technical understanding of the PowerFlex Software and be responsible for troubleshooting complex software issues escalated from customer support, identify areas for software improvement and drive requirements into the software lifecycle planning.

You will:
  • Troubleshoot software issues to determine root cause and resolve issues
  • Communicate verbally and in written form to provide detailed explanations to customers and internal stakeholders to explain complex concepts in simple language
  • Collaborate with Software Development and Product Management to identify areas for improvement and influence prioritization from the customer perspective
  • Develop and deliver internal training sessions. Prepare technical documents used internally and externally to provide both summary and detailed technical information other teams require to complete projects and tasks
  • Provide the review, analysis and closed loop corrective action for issues contributing to software defects and business process problems. Present accurate project status to senior leadership, at both a summary and detailed level

Essential Requirements
  • 8 to 12 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree or 6+ years with a master's degree
  • Advanced understanding of appropriate system architectures and experience with hyperconverged infrastructure technology. Deep knowledge of hardware and software interactions, and ability to apply this understanding to resolve issues
  • Communication skills: The ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms is a must
  • Ability to simplify: The ability to take complex situations and simplify, to explain to others that are not technically oriented
  • Expert log analysis skills. Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking. Deep problem isolation expertise
  • Expertise and experience with multiple operating systems including Linux, VMware, and Windows. Strong knowledge of programming languages; operating systems; firmware; BIOS; device drivers; databases; system, network, operating system, and application administration; embedded software/firmware; tools and utilities


Desirable Requirements
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a workgroup
  • Capability to influence others to achieve results
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and OpenStack
  • Able to code/debug and guide others to code/debug flexible, scalable and complex programs, using either written or verbal design specifications
  • Experience with multiple programming languages, databases, operating systems, tools and hardware platforms
