The Red Hat Enterprise Hardware Services team, part of the larger IT team, is looking for a Principal Storage Engineer to join us. In this role, you will focus on Storage, working close to or at the architectural level and solving for business strategy. You will join a team that works on Storage, compute hardware and datacenter disciplines, in a global team with its main presence in the U.S. and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, but also with an Asia Pacific (APAC) presence. This is an internally facing role.
We are looking for someone with years of direct experience with on-premise and cloud-based storage technologies, primarily NetApp, but who also has direct experience designing storage solutions at the architectural level, and who also has experience providing storage solutions for business level functions like data protection, disaster recovery, and business continuity. Experience with open source technologies will also be a key advantage in applying for this role. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do
- Oversee the company's global solutions at the strategic and architectural level; provide direction on strategic initiatives for the storage infrastructure
- Assist with development of data security and data protection policies and solutions; ensure strict compliance with all such policies
- Help design and build our large scale infrastructure and platform services, including public cloud, private cloud, and datacenter services.
- Develop new services and capabilities to support a hybrid datacenter model
- Establish and recommend policies on system use and services; help define offerings, key performance indicators (KPIs), monitoring, and overall management of the services
- Partner with business groups to consult on technical solutions which lead the business forward
- Extensively partner with vendors to help build and support solutions
- Make presentations to customer audiences or professional peers
What you will bring
- 10+ years of enterprise data storage management experience, including SAN, NAS, on-prem and cloud
- Multiple years of experience with NetApp technologies including AFF, FAS, E-series, StorageGrid, CVO, Cloud Sync, FSx, Cloud Insights, AIQUM, System Manager
- Experience with open source storage technologies such as Gluster and Ceph will be a huge advantage, as well as experience providing storage to open source platforms such as OpenShift, OpenStack and RHV.
- Multiple years of experience working as a technical lead or team lead
- Experience providing solutions for data protection and business continuity
- A thorough understanding of rsync and SnapMirror across multi-site solutions
- Familiarity with the concepts of data security and business continuity at the business level, e.g., creating tiered recovery strategies across different criticality applications and across on-prem and cloud based infrastructures
- Multiple years of experience serving as the direct point of contact between the business and solutions teams
- Extensive experience with planning and testing Disaster Recovery of business application data and infrastructure
- Experience working with the information security team to ensure protection of data integrity
- Excellent presentation and communication skills to the business
The following will be a plus:
- Experience with open source storage technologies like Gluster and Ceph, as well as experience providing storage to open source platforms like OpenShift, OpenStack, and Red Hat Virtualization
- Any NetApp certifications, Red Hat certifications, or open source experience
- Experience with host and storage backups and restores with Rubrik; virtualized environment data protection using Trilio
- Proficiency using various work planning and process tools like Jira, ServiceNow
- Experience acting as the technical lead in major projects, either from a project manager, architect, or lead technical coordinator, or planning perspective
