Your Opportunity

Do you love the cloud and enjoy working with databases and containerized services? We are looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer and technical leader to join our infrastructure platform group. You will help design and implement our managed infrastructure layer and tooling that our developers use daily to build, deploy, and troubleshoot services accepting terabytes of traffic each day.

What your playground will look like:

  • A hybrid data center/cloud environment accepting over 70 billion HTTP requests a day from our customers.
  • MySQL, Postgres, Aurora, Kubernetes, Go and that's just the beginning of the technologies in our stack.

What You'll Do

  • Engage, embed, and go deep with teams on a project-by-project basis to help drive high-value efforts to completion
  • Coach and mentor the teams you collaborate with on software development practices and developing balanced, maintainable solutions
  • Encourage and role-model a strong written culture - a must for our continent-spanning engineering teams even before the recent emphasis on remote collaboration
  • Rapidly mastering technologies and architecture of the systems with high stakes objectives where you'll need creative approaches to realize them.
  • Steer teams toward technical decisions that fit well with our long-term vision.
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate: Staff engineers form part of the connective tissue between teams and organizations for all technical matters.

Your Qualifications

If you are ready for this role, you have spent years building or supporting large distributed systems and databases in the cloud. You keep up on tech trends and have open conversations with members of the team.

Must-have:

  • 8+ years of technical leadership helping engineering teams thrive
  • Experience working with one of the major cloud providers
  • Solid understanding of databases (RDS/Aurora, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience designing, developing, re-engineering, and migrating databases that fully leverage the cloud
  • Ability to collaborate and impact decisions at the interpersonal level
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with configuration management tooling (Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet)
  • Experience with one of these languages: Go, Node, Python, or Ruby
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Multi-cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
