About the job
The Red Hat IT API Platform team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us to help us lead the charge for a vibrant API and event-driven integration ecosystem for both Red Hat and Red Hat's customers. In this role, you will need to help our customers not only to address cross-cutting technical concerns like authentication, authorization, observability, reliability, and release pipelines, but also the design challenges of existing in a complex business environment and distributed system. Whatever you can do to enable the business to deliver value through APIs, you will do. We envision a world of extreme productivity, where it is trivial to hook into any event and automate processes around it. Our customers are developers and product owners who need to consume or provide API services, and on our team your job is to make their path to production a delightful experience, enabling their own success as service providers. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java and Python applications
- Integrate both Red Hat's offerings and vendor solutions to Red Hat's internal environment
- Understand, navigate, and help define the standard API technology stacks used to deliver APIs from compute, through release, to monitoring and alerting
- Advise service providers on API design and integration methodology, all the way from database schemas and transaction boundaries to high level API boundaries and responsibilities
- Understand Red Hat's own architecture, organization of teams, and business capabilities
- Develop shared libraries, patterns, tools, and APIs of our own to abstract cross cutting concerns on the path to production
- Create system and application releases with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
- Create custom monitors and automate self-healing systems across multiple datacenters
- Work in a DevOps-focused team on every layer of the stack
- Analyze and clarify business requirements
- Document use cases and create physical and logical data models
- Analyze log files to debug issues in production and pre-production environments
- Evaluate open source solutions to meet business needs
What you will bring
- 3+ years of implementing integration design patterns, especially in a microservices or event-driven architecture
- 3+ years working with continuous integration (CI) tools and processes; experience working with continuous delivery (CD) is a plus
- 10+ years of experience performing object-oriented analysis and design
- 10+ years of experience in Java or other object-oriented languages
- 3+ years of experience administering Linux systems
- 10+ years of experience using Oracle, MySQL or MariaDB, or MongoDB
- 3+ years of experience developing applications working in an agile development environment
- 3+ years of experience with distributed source control tools like Git or Mercurial
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent working experience
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) qualification is a plus
- Experience with Linux containers is a plus
