The Principal Software Engineer 1 is responsible for one or more horizontal areas in the platform, driving the architecture and design of some critical components and frameworks in the Accolade Cloud Platform. In addition, they may own the technology direction and architecture in key vertical projects. In a highly dynamic environment, this role serves to collaborate with business stake holders to provide innovative solutions and packaging the platform capabilities into new products and offerings for Accolade customers. While working on these solutions, they will need to build evolutionary prototypes and proof-of-concepts to translate business inputs into a demonstrable application, service or workflow. The candidate will need to deeply engage and collaborate with Executives, Technology/Business Stakeholders and Architects to enable a natural alignment of technology and Product roadmap. At the same time, the candidate needs to guide the development teams on patterns/best-practices as as they work on lower level nuances while simultaneously translating the architecture into implementation.

  • Build evolutionary architecture and solutions with strong focus on delivery
  • Drive standardization and best practices on Architecture and Design Principles
  • Participate in the Architecture review process and collaborate with other Architects on defining specifications and patterns
  • Build prototypes using best known methods and within the architecture/engineering framework. Work effectively across all layers of the stack, from backends and data tiers to front-end and browser/mobile clients
  • Exceptional ability to identify quick solutions to problems with strong bias towards results and with eye toward the long run 
  • Collaborate with the teams and seek opportunities to live their challenges to provide effective solutions
  • Always willing to roll up sleeves, learn, communicate, analyze, and drive initiatives forward
  • Effectively communicate findings and proposed recommendations from these analyses to relevant Senior/Executive Leadership

Qualifications

What we are looking for…

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent
  • 15+ years of relevant prior work experience in Software Engineering, Architecture and Design roles
  • At least 4 years of experience in Designing and implementing complex and high-impact solutions
  • Deep understanding of Distributed and Cloud based Architecture, Patterns and Best-Practices
  • Full stack Design and Development experience
  • Previous experience with health care domain and data such as claims, digital health solutions, electronic health records, clinical and patient reported data would be a plus
  • Excellent technical documentation written skills, with clear, concise, and logically organized documents that can explain complicated and complex topics with clarity and transparency.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail, quality and scientific rigor
  • Strong bias for action
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
