About this job

Yammer is an enterprise product with a best-in class consumer experience. Our tens of millions of users expect a cutting-edge, beautiful UX that seamlessly adapts to various apps and form factors. As Yammer gets deeply integrated as an essential part of M365 (Teams, Viva etc.), this brings new challenges around architecture, development, and seamless delivery of new features and updates across several products and surfaces.

We are looking for a very senior front-end engineering leader who can provide strategic direction across Yammer and drive innovation and collaboration across multiple organizations to achieve big, hairy, and audacious goals and enable us to continue scaling our experience as we undergo unprecedented growth.

Our FE stack:

  • React + Redux (in Typescript)
  • GraphQL
  • Azure Cloud Services



Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of major client architectural changes (e.g. data layer) on features that impact tens of millions of users
  • Provide strategic direction for the evolution of the Yammer client technology stack, building alignment with other senior technical leaders across Microsoft
  • Mentor and train other engineers in software best practices and design techniques
  • Help build and maintain a strong engineering culture
  • Develop user-facing features and experiences in partnership with design, product, and engineering.
  • Build reusable code and libraries for maintainability and future use.
  • Build responsive, accessible and localized experiences for a diverse user-base.
  • Experiment, A/B test key hypothesis to make data driven decisions.


Optimize for performance and scalability

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering,
  • 4+ in a technical leadership role.
  • Superb understanding of modern web tech stack; we use TypeScript, React, Redux, Webpack, Jest, and GraphQL, but broad experience across multiple FE technologies is preferred.
  • Holistic understanding of client technology including front-end, API, networking, and the browser itself.
  • Deep expertise improving performance (FMP, TTI, bundle size, etc).
  • Good understanding of best practices of building cross browser and device independent interfaces.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in related field.
