About the job
The Red Hat Analytics Technology Strategy (BITS) team is looking for a Principal Software Applications Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC or remotely. In this role, you'll be a member of the team and contribute to the design, deployment, and operations of the analytics platforms across enterprise data and analytics. You will support applications in the areas of automation, disaster recovery, monitoring, change management, and defining standard processes and documentation. You will also work closely with the up and downstream stakeholders to ensure the applications best meet their needs. This role will require limited on-call duties.

What you will do

  • Be responsible for platform health and maintenance on a day-to-day basis
  • Work on your own with multiple global teams to manage, monitor, and deploy business critical applications
  • Think at scale, bringing a focus on continuous delivery methodologies from design through to deployment and operations
  • Build and manage automation for operational tasks
  • Run and validate the Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Deliver enhancements according to platform feature roadmap and upgrades
  • Provide Tier 2 operational support for platforms
  • Develop and document best practices across all products


What you will bring

  • 8+ years of experience in a DevOps or service reliability engineering (SRE) environment consisting of highly available applications
  • 8+ years working with Linux or UNIX environments
  • Advanced experience with programming languages like Bash, Python, and Java
  • Experience with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and infrastructure monitoring
  • Experience with load balancers and clustered applications
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in English


The following will be considered a plus:

  • Experience with configuration management and deployment automation using tools like Ansible, CloudFormation, Chef, or Puppet; Ansible is a big plus
  • Experience with building dashboards or alerts in a security information and event management (SEIM) tool like Splunk
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Informatica (MDM, P360, IDQ, IICS, ActiveVOS), JBoss, Elastic Search
  • Experience with deploying applications on public cloud services like AWS, GCP, Azure
  • Deploying applications on Kubernetes platform like OpenShift
