Job Summary:

Plan, direct, coordinate and monitor engineering projects involving the design, modification, integration, testing and evaluation of complex systems with integrated hardware and software components. Responsible for the technical performance, schedule and budgets of assigned projects, driving execution, communicating needs and progressing the engineering solutions for large and critical projects and products. Task and direct all engineering resources that are assigned to a project, providing technical guidance, leadership and supervision. Lead investigation of engineering issues in the field and development laboratories. Coordinate activities from a technical perspective for change orders, proposals and new business including estimation and technical scope schedule. Has familiarity with devices, back office enterprise systems (including financial transactions, reconciliation, payment processing, and customer services) and mobile applications. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction, and incumbents will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority associated with the technical scope.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain the engineering team on a project. Team sizes are typically ten or more engineers.
  • Work with functional managers to secure engineering resources needed to successfully execute the project
  • Task and direct all engineering resources assigned and document the organizational chart for the engineering teams along with roles and responsibilities.
  • Deliver engineering solutions that meet budget, schedule and agreed scope.
  • Assist the program manager with schedule status, controlling project costs, and managing risks and technical issues.
  • Interface and primary technical point of contact across the cross functional project team, such as PM, Manufacturing, Services, and any subcontractors.
  • Ensure project and development teams are properly appraised of status, schedule and scope.
  • Direct and manage the baseline of system requirements, subsystem requirements, systems configurations, system architectures and system designs.
  • Manage the creation, maintenance, review and QA of the System Design documents and artefacts in accordance with the contract, company processes and the project Engineering Management Plan.
  • Interface with customers on engineering requirements, designs, issues, planning and status updates.
  • Serve as technical support for customer interfaces and meetings, and manage technical presentations, discussions, workshops and gate reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineers, operations, program management, product management, and other stakeholders to implement solutions and transitions from project to operations.
  • Lead cross-team collaboration using tools such as Confluence, SharePoint and Slack.
  • Manage and monitor software development work activities and status using tools such as Jira.
  • Support defect identification and resolution and monitor test status using tools such as TestRail.
  • Lead process and technology improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, customer representatives, third party suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Establish and review engineering statements of work and work breakdown structures in conjunction with project plans and schedules.
  • Develop engineering estimates using appropriate methods such as bottom-up and parametric techniques.
  • Monitor/coordinate software integration and software/hardware integration in integration and test/QA environments.
  • Develop plans for supplier software releases based on customer and stakeholder requirements.
  • Follow formal change management processes.
  • Provide reports on engineering and test metrics related to the execution of the project.
  • Mentor and coach other engineering team members.



Minimum Job Requirements

Four-year college degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline, plus a minimum of eight years of related experience, or an applicable master's degree with six years related experience. Experience in creating, analyzing, documenting and testing system and subsystem designs. Mental ability to perform engineering problem solving and analytical tasks. Familiarity with project management principles. Must be able to work under project deadlines and be able to establish and maintain engineering project schedules and cost budgets. Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form. Requires strong team building and multi-tasking skills. Must be a pro-active leader who is decisive and action-oriented, and can liaise effectively with project teams, project managers and customers (internal and external). Project management qualifications, such as PMI PMP, is desired.
