PayPal Invest is the newly formed Entity at PayPal exploring opportunities in the Consumer Investment Business. This is a phenomenal opportunity to jump in and help shape 1.0 of Invest at PayPal, leveraging the strengths of PayPal and bringing in a start-up mindset to question the status quo and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. About the role: As a Principal member of this newly formed Engineering team, you will be a Developer with "skin in the game" of practical delivery who also judiciously balances long-term design with near-term delivery pressure. You also will be expected to ensure your Platforms' adherence to enterprise architecture standards and to bring modern coding methodologies and best practices to the Platforms' engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have a deep technology background, years of hands-on software development experience and strong platform thinking. You must be passionate about solving hard technical problems at scale and must have an ability to collaborate with many teams and stakeholders to move the big rocks forward. This role will partner at scale with stakeholders across the enterprise, lead hundreds of others through influence and provide guidance in executing tech platform consolidation, convergence and reengineering. Finally, the ideal candidate must have a proven record of leading efforts to solve large, complex problems while setting a compelling vision to gather support from all stakeholders, navigating competing technical and product requirements and balancing both immediate tactical needs and long-term success.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive both technology and product innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative software development.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership in design, development, scaling and operation of software applications.
  • Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of our platforms to enable solutions to complex, large-scale customers.
  • Mentor, coach, advise and level up engineering talent across the organization.
Skillset and requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Track record leading, developing, and delivering significant, complex software projects within complex organizations
  • Strong technical background as hands-on software engineer
  • Expertise in designing and delivering large scale distributed systems
  • Experience designing and building cloud native applications on public clouds (ideally GCP and AWS)
  • Experience with high-performance data storage tiers, relational and No-SQL
  • Demonstrable in-depth experience with Java, node.js
  • Experience in software release lifecycle with modern distributed version control (e.g. git)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, including Extreme Programming practices like Iterative Development, Continuous Integration (and Deployment) and Test-Driven Development
  • Great analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong influencer and strong communicator, both written and spoken
