Job Title: Principal Software Engineer

Description


As a Principal Software Engineer, you will act as a technical lead and thought leader in the Technology team, and help define the technical strategy and delivery for Unite Us product portfolio. You value simplicity and are willing to challenge technical constraints to achieve a solid design. You will be accountable for the delivery of a quality product including its enhancements and new development. You will always be expanding your industry knowledge, especially as it relates to technology platform capabilities for social care platforms integrating with both healthcare technology systems and CBO technology systems. 


What You'll Do:


  • Guide team to adopt full (and accurate) adoption of modern software engineering and delivery practices by enacting coding standards and branching strategy
  • Lead sophisticated multi-functional teams with a multidisciplinary skillset to solve technical problems. Lead large, strategic, or complex releases; usually multi-person projects that cross engineering team boundaries
  • Set architectural direction for the broader organization and evolve systems toward it
  • Bring deep knowledge and experience to design and implement solutions in the cloud (AWS) and validate architecture decisions
  • Drive efficiency by identifying opportunities for strategic improvement
  • Operationalize solutions to improve system performance and optimize observability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Consistently build and push out solutions aligned with the product’s strategic vision
  • Help refine roadmaps across teams based on technical strategy and constraints
  •  Help define and create new product abilities by changing technical strategy or constraints
  • Closely partner with engineers, CTO, Product Owners, Agile Delivery Managers, and Technical Product Managers to build reusable and scalable components
  • Collaborate with Technical Product Managers to write user stories and determine project requirements
  • Connect with Team Lead and/or Team Manager to develop work schedules and delegate technical execution to engineers on the team
  • Mentor engineers on the team through activities like pairing and code reviews to promote a culture of technical excellence
  • Monitor code quality metrics and define unit test coverage


What's Required:


  • Experience leading team-wide efforts to complete technical projects
  • Experience running or leading robust Agile teams
  • Demonstrated ability to engineer awesome solutions
  • Shown success coaching and redefining technical teams to shift to the modern execution model
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable designing, building, and maintaining large scale systems
  • Expertise in a high-level programming language (JavaScript, Ruby, Golang, etc.)
  • Experience in web development (React (or another JS framework), CSS3, HTML5)
  • Experience with data storage technologies (Neo4j, Postgres, MySQL, etc.)
  • Experience managing code, build, deployment, and system health (git, automated build scripting, DevOps)
  • Experience with AWS technologies

 Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position is remote, U.S. based
  • Target range: $185,000-195,000. This salary range represents our national target range for this role. Some geographic areas may have higher target ranges, including certain localities in Colorado.
  • All team members will be required to pass a background check which includes criminal, employment, and education verification
