About This Role

LivePerson is growing fast, and we want our technology to keep up. We’ve formed a team that’s focused on evolving our event streaming systems and how they’re used by application teams so we can scale faster than ever before. We are seeking a Cassandra Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team to play a critical role in configuring, maintaining, and advocating Cassandra technology. Principal duties will focus on evolving and optimizing a secure, scalable, enterprise-grade Cassandra deployment topology, providing production support and troubleshooting, enabling multi-datacenter integration, establishing and maturing Cassandra monitoring capabilities, and raising awareness to advanced Cassandra capabilities. An ideal candidate would lead peer messaging engineers to provide first class support of the Cassandra technology at Liveperson. The ideal candidate would also partner with software developers to assist and recommend Cassandra integration best practices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evolve and optimize enterprise-grade Cassandra topologies as organizational utilization grows.
  • Address performance and scalability challenges posed by new or changing Cassandra producers and consumers.
  • Implement solutions to monitor Cassandra components to proactively address any Cassandra issues.
  • Conduct multi-environment capacity planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent training or work experience
  • 10+ years of equivalent professional experience building microservice software at scale.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working on Unix/Linux operating systems and shell scripting (CentOS, Redhat)
  • 3-4+ years of solid experience installing, configuring, administering, monitoring, and troubleshooting Cassandra
  • Deep understanding of technical capabilities offered through CassandraHands-on experience with automation-centric scripting and/or tooling such as Ansible, Terraform, Chef, or Puppet.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating architectures that scale with volume and are fault-tolerant
  • Familiarity with distributed systems & asynchronous messaging
  • Experience tuning distributed systems & software to improve their performance under increasing volumes of traffic
  • Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability, in both private and public cloud environments
  • Proven ability to dive deep with problems another team is facing and help them identify short-term mitigations and long-term plans to overcome those problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to adapt communication style to technical, non-technical, and executive audiences
  • Proven ability to influence without authority up through the VP level
  • Proven ability to work in a fully remote environment with people across the globe
  • Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g AWS Certification, Google Cloud Platform Certification
