Job summary
The IT Marketing and Legal team is looking for an experienced Principal Cloud DevOps and Site Reliability Engineer to help us create and maintain our OpenShift-based applications. In this role, you will work with both internal and customer-facing software. You'll need to be familiar with container orchestration technology like Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Linux, and shell scripting. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary job responsibilities

  • Lead a team through improving or replatforming solutions onto cloud technologies, mentoring developers, guiding implementation, reviewing code, and striving for consensus on key decisions
  • Work directly with key stakeholders to ensure that backlog priorities are in alignment with corporate strategies
  • Design, implement, and extend both internal and customer-facing software
  • Ensure internal and external-facing site reliability using a variety of pre-deployment and post-deployment tools and techniques
  • Ensure infrastructure code quality through bug fixes, troubleshooting, refactoring, and test automation
  • Cooperate with other developers across multiple departments and technology stacks for cross-team projects
  • Contribute to maintenance of continuous integration (CI) automation, deployment automation, and infrastructure configuration code


Required skills

  • Experience with Linux system administration and Bash scripting; Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) qualifications are a plus
  • Experience with source control like Git, Apache Subversion (SVN), or similar
  • Experience with Linux container technologies like Docker
  • Experience with public or private cloud technology like Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure
  • Familiarity with concepts of continuous integration (CI), continuous deployment, and infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • Application development experience with PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, or Node.js
  • Experience with multi-tiered applications and server architectures
  • Experience supporting development tools, build automation, e.g., Jenkins, Red Hat Ansible Tower, GitLab CI, or Travis CI, software RPM packaging, and deployment automation
  • Experience with configuration management like Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Puppet, Chef, or similar
  • Creative, motivated, and capable of working both on your own and as part of a globally distributed team
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and solve technical issues anywhere within a web application stack
  • Experience supporting virtual development environments in Red Hat Virtualization, KVM, or similar
  • Agile software development methodology knowledge and experience


The following are considered a plus:

  • Prior participation and active community member in open source software projects
  • Experience using infrastructure monitoring tools like Splunk, PagerDuty, SignalFx, Grafana, New Relic, Datadog, Pingdom, Nagios, or similar
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; engineering or computer science experience
  • Experience with git-based workflow tools like GitLab, GitHub, or equivalent
  • Experience with Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, or LAMP stack
