Primary Responsibilities:
An individual in the Architecture job family is a strategic resource for UnitedHealth Group. This individual could be involved across many aspects of architecture, design, build, engineering and implementation of technical solutions and capabilities providing technical leadership. Responsible for communicating overall architecture vision, technical strategies, and trade-offs across various levels in the organization to gain buy-in. Will provide recommendations and technical guidance to improve performance, reliability, and reusability within the constraints of budget, resource and business dependencies. In base and mid-level roles, engages across teams in a capacity that ranges from assisting on in-flight initiatives, up to technical briefings and demonstrations of new technologies across the organization. In senior level roles, leads business solutions, capabilities, and is a solid influencer that engages with client executives and stakeholders.

  • Lead Cloud architectural discussions and planning with multiple engineering teams
  • Provide hands-on implementation assistance
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, maintain, and continuously improve software
  • Actively mentor the diverse, globally distributed engineering team through code reviews, brown bags, tech talks, design reviews
  • Build reusable components, patterns, tools and promote use by teams within the org
  • Align teams to strategic technology decisions to promote velocity and agility within the team
  • Focus on the biggest problems repeated across the org and construct solutions to meet the complex needs of many clients
  • Understand security threats and patterns comprehensively and ensures adherence to all regulatory initiatives, HIPPA, PHI, PII, locational data restrictions, contractual, etc.
  • Empower software delivery teams to rapidly deliver software through the use of automation and "everything-as-code" best practices
  • Stay abreast of leading-edge technologies in the industry, evaluating emerging software technologies and evangelizing their adoption
  • Adapting to and remaining effective in a changing environment

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in software design, architecture, and programing with one or more of the follow languages Java, C#, C/C++, Ruby, Python or JavaScript with a willingness and ability to learn new ones
  • 2+ years Cloud experience
  • 2+ years of experience with software automation including test automation, deployment automation, database management automation, operations automation
  • 2+ years mentoring teams/organizations on engineering fundamentals including: Security, Telemetry, DevOps, Automation, Testing, Design and code reviews


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience
  • Experience coaching, decision making, influencing, mentoring, negotiation, problem solving and situational analysis skills
  • Experience delivering applications using componentized and distributed architectures
  • Global team experience
  • Proven record of software application delivery focusing on open source commodity solutions

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut and/or Nevada residents is $110,200 to $218,100.
