Department OverviewMotorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of professional mobile communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The group's main business is the design and implementation of mission critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.
The Presales Systems Engineering Team primarily supports State and Local Government Public Safety infrastructure and subscriber design and implementation for projects in the Southeast Region. Our office is conveniently located in Brentwood, TN.
Job Description
The Presales System Engineer design radio communication solutions, from the conceptual phases through to implementation that meet customer's requirements. They consult with the customer to determine their requirements to design the best solution to meet their needs. In cooperation with the sales, product development, and project management they develop technical strategies and generate proposals to customers presenting Motorola's solution. Presales System Engineers provide coordination with the design and planning of the customer solutions using advanced technologies and provide technical support throughout the pre-sales phase of the project. This involves coverage and antenna site selection, frequency planning, interference analysis, design of system architecture, equipment selection, proposal generation, and presentations of proposed solutions to customer. System Engineers are then engaged in the implementation of these solutions as originally conceived. They take responsibility for all technical aspects of the assigned project from award until system acceptance. This involves implementation planning, system acceptance testing, coverage testing, and system staging.
Responsibilities:
Understanding customer requirements
Radio Coverage design and analysis
Equipment list generation
Description of system design, including diagrams
Calculation of power and networking requirements
Participation in proposal reviews and contract negotiations
Consultative guidance to customers and sales team
Presentations to customers
Coordinate with the various functional teams (Systems Integration, Service, Sales, Product Groups) to ensure all business unit goals are addressed in our proposals and win-strategies.
Development of the implementation approach and service plan necessary to win the project
Meet/exceeding customer requirements and provide value alternatives when requirements cannot be met
Manage to Motorola’s sales, revenue and margin goals
Drive all sole source & RFP (Request for Proposal) projects to completion, managing the schedules of each project team member (engineering, proposal specialist, sales, and service)
Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science or M.S degree is required. Preferred emphasis in Electrical, Wireless, Computer, Network Engineering or Computer Science
2+ years of experience in engineering, solutions architecture or sales
Strong general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data architectures - both public and private (e.g. APCO P25, LTE, 802.11, 4G/5G) is highly desirable
Strong general knowledge of IP networking architecture, protocols and security is highly desirable
Knowledge of RF coverage predictions, traffic/capacity modeling, and related toolsets is an asset
A positive attitude with a can-do mentality that enables you to be creative, resourceful and deliver results
Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to present complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Willingness to think out of the box and challenge the status quo
Attention to detail and a flawless execution mindset
Travel: 25-50% (domestic only)
Basic Requirements
Bachelors Degree
2+ years of experience in engineering, solutions architecture or sales
