Platform Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah (remote work available from these states)

The role of a Platform Infrastructure Engineer is to build, test, mature, operate, and maintain a highly secure multi-cloud platform used to host business solutions, applications, and services. Responsibilities span cloud infrastructure, security, continuous integration pipelines, developer and operational tooling, continuous improvement, and operational efficiencies. This role will collaborate closely with infrastructure, security, and application architects, and with software engineers/developers responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality, reliable, and secure business solutions.

General Functions and Outcomes

  • Maintain and operate secure and reliable cloud-based infrastructure using tools like Ansible and Terraform
  • Maintain and operate secure and reliable Kubernetes based container management platforms and tooling
  • Maintain and operate Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Automate our operational processes as needed, with accuracy and in compliance with security standards
  • Maintain monitoring and alerting to comply with Service Level Agreements
  • Ensure designs, standards, process, and best practice documentation is accurate and current
  • Ensure platform infrastructure services comply with corporate security policy and protocols
  • Contribute to peer-to-peer code reviews
  • Works as a project team member, and independently on small projects.
  • Possesses skill and abilities limited to a single technical environment or domain
  • Collaborate and work closely with infrastructure, security, and application architects, and with software engineers/developers responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality, reliable, and secure business solutions
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call support cycle

  • Configure, implement, maintain, and monitor cloud-based infrastructure and tools to comply with Service Level Agreements
  • Delivering successful product outcomes by adopting Agile processes.
  • Works as a project team member, and independently on moderate to complex projects/assignments
  • Possesses skills and abilities across multiple technical environments or domains
  • Build, test, maintain, and operate secure and reliable cloud-based infrastructure using tools like Ansible and Terraform
  • Build, test, maintain, and operate secure and reliable Kubernetes based container management platforms and tooling
  • Build, test, maintain, and operate Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines


Additional General Functions and Outcomes for level III

  • Design cloud-based infrastructure and tools.
  • Works as a project team member, and independently on complex, major, or highly visible projects/assignments
  • Subject matter expert across multiple technical environments or domains. Provide technical guidance to other team members.
  • Contributes to project estimating and planning processes
  • Uses experience and skillset to influence and guide the Infrastructure Services roadmap.


Minimum Requirements

  • Exposure to IaC and configuration management tools and methodologies (preferred: Ansible or Terraform)
  • Exposure to source code management tools and methodologies (preferred: GitHub, Gitlab)
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Must possess effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems (configuration, troubleshooting and deployment)


Additional Minimum Requirements for level II

  • Experience with IaC and configuration management tools and methodologies (preferred: Ansible or Terraform)
  • Experience with source code management tools and methodologies (preferred: GitHub, Gitlab)
  • Experience managing and administering cloud managed services (preferred: AWS or GCP)
  • Experience interfacing programmatically with AWS managed services via API's
  • Experience with coding or scripting (preferred: Go, Python, Bash, Shell)
  • Experience with building, testing, and deploying solutions as containers (preferred: Docker)
  • Proven experience with Windows and Linux operating systems (configuration, troubleshooting and deployment)
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Experience working in applications, systems, or IT operations


Additional Minimum Requirements for level III

  • Proficient with IaC and configuration management tools and methodologies (preferred: Ansible or Terraform)
  • Proficient with source code management tools and methodologies (preferred: GitHub, GitLab)
  • Comfort with frequent, incremental code, testing and deployment.
  • Experience with application deployment tools & processes (AMI baking, CI/CD, Artifactory, CircleCI, etc.)


Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above:

Platform Infrastructure Engineer I would have a bachelor's degree in a Computer Science or related field and 1 - 3 years of experience developing tools in support of production environments or equivalent combination of education and experience. List any required licenses or certifications here.

Platform Infrastructure Engineer II would have a bachelor's degree in a Computer Science or related field and at least 3 years of experience developing tools in support of production environments or equivalent combination of education and experience. List any required licenses or certifications here.

Platform Infrastructure Engineer III would have a bachelor's degree in a Computer Science or related field and at least 5 years of experience developing tools in support of production environments or equivalent combination of education and experience. List any required licenses or certifications here.
