Description
This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work remotely, but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to live a commutable distance to the innovation center they are selected for. Relocation will be provided as needed.
In this exciting and visible role, you will be responsible and accountable for the design, implementation, configuration and successful transition to Operations of technologies in the assigned domain. This will include: following standard installation recommendations, configuring the technologies to match the needs of the function being served, and delivering to project schedules. For this GM position, we expect you to have sophisticated proficiency to function independently for day to day tasks. The role requires working with several technical teams to rationalize throughput and sizing demand to define efficient and effective solutions that bring together technologies from all areas. In this position you will often be an assigned technical resource to numerous project teams simultaneously. You will be required to work with numerous teams and balance challenging requests, while meeting project deadlines. Additional responsibilities might include supervising, performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and implementing corrective actions in support of continuing operations of the assigned domain.
The role is accountable to work with project teams to develop robust system designs that meet the criteria for functionality, stability, performance and resiliency to deliver effective IT solutions for our business. Duties include working on numerous project teams, often as the sole system management engineer, to develop requirements, acquire information from other support groups, execute project tasks, deliver systems, and provide support through the lifecycle of the project.
Responsibilities include ensuring IT standards are met, production readiness processes are followed and a quality system product is delivered and turned over to Production Support personnel. The role may also be called upon for escalation of real-time incidents. Responsibilities include advising junior staff in appropriate steps to diagnose, repair or remediate issues with systems in the assigned . Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and crafts a winning culture. Performs other related duties as assigned.
About the role:
Working within a small specialized team of IT professionals, the Platform Engineer collaborates with Solution Architects, Security Architects, Developers and other project members to install and manage COTs and custom coded applications. Throughout a Platform Engineer's career, they become SME's for the applications that they help deploy and assist fixing any problems that bubble up. With the wide variety of applications to work on Platform Engineers can work on various platforms and technology and interact with many different groups within GM IT. The Platform Engineer is also a key partner in keeping GM secure and help ensure all applications align with security controls and GM standards. They also actively participate in project planning, architecture and delivery on a broad range of technologies and software platforms.
Additional Description
Responsibilities:

  • Install COTs applications and assist Developers with deployments of home-grown applications
  • Responsible for system servers from request to decommissioning
  • Evaluate security scan data and implementation of security remediation, eg patches, encryption and other security controls
  • OS batch job scripting for automation of simple maintenance tasks Installation documentation and knowledge transfer to Operations Assessing and requesting system monitors

  • Role Results Deploying systems within project timelines
  • Assist in closing out application incidents within set SLA Expectations
  • Finding system-wide operational efficiencies


Knowledge:
The role requires expert knowledge of technologies in the assigned domain, robust knowledge of general IT concepts. Detailed knowledge of system design principles to include reliability, availability, scalability, Knowledge of peripheral domains is vital. Extensive knowledge of how to use available resources to solve problems and deliver solutions.
Preferred knowledge and experience:

  • OS Experience (Unix / Windows)
  • User documentation skills
  • Ability to convey technical content to non-technical employees
  • Middleware experience (Tomcat, Apache, IIS, Weblogic)
  • Advanced Scripting (Ruby, Python) Chef Automation Galileo provisioning experience
  • Knowledge of single sign on and internet access methods Zones and networking knowledge


Internal Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical bachelor's degree is preferred
