Thyme Care is a value-based oncology management platform that provides personalized, clinically coordinated care to individuals with cancer. Thyme Care pairs human guidance with software and analytics to engage members with a cancer diagnosis , quickly connect them to the right care, and provide ongoing support through targeted, evidence-based interventions. The company’s unique approach establishes deep provider relationships and integrates with a health plan’s existing infrastructure, coordinating value-driven care that leads to better outcomes, lower costs and an improved member experience. Backed with venture funding from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Alley Corp, Frist Cressey Ventures, Casdin Capital and Bessemer, Thyme Care partners with health insurance plans and providers to extend the reach of high-quality cancer care through flexible value-based payment arrangements, including risk-based programs.

Our team of passionate oncology experts - clinicians, technologists, and insurance specialists - is committed to improving the cancer experience for patients, their families and their providers. We are building an extraordinary technical team to enable our patients’ success by creating world class solutions and services. Our engineering team is 100% remote, meaning you can work from anywhere in the USA.

Your Mission:

As a Platform Engineer at Thyme Care, you will be the first dedicated platform hire in an early stage company that is growing quickly. You will join an engineering team that has prioritized the platform from day one, building on infrastructure-as-code best practices and centering the developer experience. Your focus in the role will be to facilitate the growth of our engineering and data teams by building out our platform-as-a-product. You will work with engineers to understand their needs and support the development of high performance, reliable, and secure services.

You will join an existing environment built on AWS, with Terraform as our infrastructure-as-code tool of choice. We deploy our applications to EKS, supported by AWS Lambda for data pipelines and async jobs. Helm and ArgoCD enable us to manage our Kubernetes deployments as code. We use tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Sentry to monitor our services, and leverage GitHub Actions for CI/CD. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the developer experience and the reliability of our platform.

After three months on the job you will have:

  • Worked with Thyme Box (the internal application powering Thyme Care’s outreach and interventions) and the data pipelines that feed into it.
  • Owned projects in our infrastructure end-to-end, such as the design of a versioning and release strategy for Helm chart changes.

After six months you will have:

  • Led development of numerous features in the existing platform.
  • Contributed to the architectural design of a net-new infrastructure to support Thyme Care’s first mobile application.
  • Performed discovery with stakeholders on the engineering and data teams to help extend the roadmap for Thyme Care’s platform-as-a-product.
  • Established monitoring of key platform metrics such as mean time to restore, change fail percentage, and user satisfaction.
  • Helped achieve compliance with SOC 2 Type II and collaborated with our Growth and Security teams to anticipate security requirements outlined in partner contracts.
  • Helped grow the Platform team and define its culture and processes, with a focus on diversity and inclusion.

What leads to success:

  • People-first. Thyme Care’s mission and members matter to you, deeply. You have a passion for seeing your work in action solving meaningful problems.
  • Experience. You have managed infrastructure in AWS using Terraform. You are familiar with Kubernetes. You understand how to deploy, monitor, and scale complex cloud. architectures. You have worked with data teams and ETL pipelines, or have a desire to learn.
  • Security mindset. Protecting member data is a first priority at Thyme Care. You are comfortable reasoning about the security implications of the changes you make, and know when to seek expert advice from our CISO.
  • Empathy. You are driven by a desire to solve problems for others and will work closely with the users of the platform to understand their needs.
  • Commitment to inclusivity. You care deeply about building an inclusive culture at Thyme Care. You recognize a history of inequity in tech, and believe that we must build a team that reflects the diversity of the population that we serve.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. You have a proven track record of success within scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, or ambitious startups. You know how to translate ambiguous challenges into well-scoped solutions.

We are committed to promoting the health and well-being of all individuals. As a provider of cancer care navigation, we recognize that those with cancer constitute a vulnerable population at risk of contracting COVID-19.  As such, Thyme Care has adopted a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, requiring all employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, subject only to conflicting laws and approved exemptions based on medical or religious objections.

In addition, we believe employees should be paid fairly compared to their peers inside the company and in the market. We also believe that your personal needs and preferences should be taken into consideration so we allow some choice between equity and cash.

We recognize a history of inequality in health care. We’re here to challenge these systems with a culture of inclusion through the care we give and the company we build. We embrace and celebrate a diversity of perspectives in reflection of our members and the patients our products serve. We are an equal opportunity employer.
