Chewy’s Pet Health is on a mission to build innovative solutions for our customers and our partner vets, such as Practice Hub, Telehealth and Insurance. Engineering plays a critical role in defining and executing our platform roadmap. We take time to understand the “why” before we start shaping up the “how.” We celebrate engineering successes and promote a blameless and continuous learning and improvement engineering culture. We set the bar high for delivering production-ready code by adopting CI/CD and DevOps engineering best practices. Our engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas and code to our own platform and to other partner teams.

You will own major components of a platform and lead the design and build of production-ready code enforcing CI/CD processes to ensure speed and quality. You will collaborate with product owners to design architecture based on product requirements, breaking features into small work units and leading end-to-end feature development. You will have the ability to experience working as a full stack engineer with UI, microservice based backend, data processing and machine learning, all while solving complex business problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, deploy and scale major platform components and services
  • Lead teams of 2-5 engineers to deliver major features from design to production
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers to deliver the best quality code through design and code reviews
  • Build a culture of innovation through rapid prototyping and continuous delivery to production

  • Ability to lead independent projects, responsible for interacting with multiple development teams
  • Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or similar technical field of study preferred), or equivalent work experience

Preferred:

  • Experience in frontend technologies such as React, Angular or TypeScript
  • Working with GCP and/or AWS
  • Experience working with Kubernetes

An Insider's view of Chewy

What’s the vibe like in the office?

Fast paced! We work in "doggy-years" here. It's a place where talent and hard work is valued and where team members can think big and can bring their dreams to life.

Greg

Senior Technical Recruiter

What projects are you most excited about?

I'd say our new onboarding program, which educates and immerses Chewy’s new hires in our business, mission, and Operating Principles. I hope new Chewtopians walk away from our revamped onboarding experience with a deeper understanding of what makes Chewy special and that it helps them build connections with their fellow new team members.

Victoria

Senior Talent Manager

What are some things you learned at the company?

Creating a work environment that is accessible to everyone attracts a diverse talent pool and unlocks talents and skills that might not be available otherwise.

Mark

Sr. Accessibility Program Manager

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

Aside from the standard 1x1s and team meetings: 24/7 via text, email, chat, voice and during business hours by walking around the office engaging in conversation, listening to current challenges and proposed solutions.

Mike

VP, Software Engineering

What’s the vibe like in the office?

My favorite Operating Principle here at Chewy is “Debate Openly, Commit Fully.” It makes me comfortable having passionate disagreements with my coworkers about a project when appropriate, knowing that we can have a (zoom) beer later that day and feel OK about it. Every company strives for that culture, and it's a part of our DNA at Chewy.

Zack

Senior Product Manager
