About the Position:

We're growing. Fast. Our global expansion necessitates a talented individual to lead our Performance and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Team.

Key Responsibilities:

First and foremost, you will be responsible for devising, implementing and overseeing the performance and reliability strategy for the Whispir platform.

  • Manage a cross-functional team of SREs, developers and performance engineers to operate the next generation of performance testing infrastructure and implement performance enhancements to our infrastructure and software
  • Model and publish a performance plan that considers current capabilities and future state targets
  • Execute targeted testing and identify the most important problems to solve early
  • Establish success metrics, be outcome driven, test and measure everything, take ownership of the results, track critical metrics and use them to drive celebration and improvement opportunities  
  • Build a technical roadmap to improve the operational performance and resilience of the Whispir platform
  • Working closely with delivery teams in becoming aware of problems around the corner and work SMEs to in solution and architecture design discussions
  • Provide support for incident management activities involving performance or business continuity which may include participation in secondary on-call rotation as reasonably required
  • Identify system deficiencies and implement solutions with a consistent leaning towards “shift-left” and automation for performance and other non functional testing

  • Contribute to technical and functional design, and take ownership of improvements

  • Assist with platform maintenance and client support tasks where needed

Organisational

  • Adhere to operational procedures such as time keeping, task allocation, status reporting
  • Actively contribute to internal programs

Professional Development

  • Be knowledgeable and ‘up to date’ with domain knowledge including industry trends, technologies, frameworks and techniques
  • Be knowledgeable and ‘up to date’ with Whispir products
  • Proactively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies
  • Share acquired skills and knowledge of competitor or complementary products with the team

About You:

We would like you to have:

  • Ability to lead, mentor and set technical direction to a team of engineers
  • Strong experience in solving performance challenges across infrastructure (AWS) and software systems
  • Volume and stress testing experience including knowledge of frameworks, tools and approaches 
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, with a strong focus on performance, root cause analysis and remediation
  • Experience building and running services in Amazon Web Services or similar environment
  • Experience with automation or scripting in a Linux environment
  • Understanding of SRE approaches and how to implement them in practice in AWS
  • Knowledge of software deployment patterns and processes, and building CI/CD pipelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of best-practice observability approaches and tooling

We would be impressed if you have:

  • Extensive experience in AWS for high volume messaging or event driven applications
  • Expert skills in Linux and Linux internals
  • Experience defining Service Level Objectives as availability targets 
  • Skills with Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code tools. Preferably Ansible, Packer, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Experience supporting infrastructure or platform services in a customer-facing operational environment 
  • Knowledge of best practices for implementing security and compliance controls in cloud environments
  • Working knowledge Java or other programming languages
