About Us

It’s our mission to build a world that communicates more humanly. Since 2001, we’ve been delivering innovative and powerful communication solutions. Today, we’re a communication intelligence company applying powerful machine intelligence and carefully developed algorithms to deliver effective human engagement at scale even when we are not face to face — all guided by our values of Listening, Respect, Innovation, and Passion.

Our customers use Whispir to communicate across multiple channels from SMS to email, to dynamic landing pages, voice and more – all easily configured to meet their specific needs. All of our customers benefit from our low code – no code platform and powerful APIs. Our promise is to deliver a platform capable of achieving the world’s highest engagement rates.

About the Position:

We're growing. Fast. With regions deployed in Australia, NZ, Asia and USA, our ongoing global expansion necessitates a talented individual to lead our Performance engineering efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

This is a new role and new team.

  • First and foremost, you will be responsible for devising, implementing and overseeing the performance and reliability strategy for the Whispir platform
  • This is both a people leadership and technical hands-on role where you will get actively involved in setting targets and overcoming performance hurdles to reach them
  • In the initial stages of this stream of work, you will establish a performance baseline of our core platform through new stress and volume test approaches. You will directly lead the team to create this baseline
  • From here, you will model and publish a performance plan that considers current capabilities and future state targets against the product roadmap and international expansion plan
  • You will manage a team of performance testers and seconded engineers to implement performance enhancements to our platform whilst also working across the engineering groups to prioritise enhancements as part of our planning cycles
  • You will establish success metrics, be outcome driven, test and measure everything, take ownership of the results, track critical metrics and use them to drive celebration and improvement opportunities
  • You will work closely with delivery teams in becoming aware of problems around the corner and work with SMEs to help solution design discussions
  • Over time, you will shift the focus of the team into a centre of excellence model and support Whispir achieving a Shift Left strategy in performance and other non functional testing

About You:

Even if you don't meet this criteria perfectly but believe you have lots to bring to the role, we encourage you to apply. We know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap - you don’t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.

  • Natural problem solver with a thirst for solving big problems
  • Ability to lead, mentor and set technical direction to a team of engineering professionals
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, with a strong focus on performance, root cause analysis and remediation
  • Proven track record of working with Amazon Web Services for a high volume, preferably event based systems.
  • Strong experience in solving performance challenges across infrastructure (AWS) and software systems
  • Practical volume and stress testing experience including frameworks, tools and approaches
  • Solid Java experience and ability to navigate the Linux/RedHat/K8/Java ecosystem.

We would be really impressed if you have:

  • Expert skills in Linux, Java or Postgres
  • Experience defining Service Level Objectives as availability targets
  • Skills with Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code tools. Preferably Ansible, Packer, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Experience supporting infrastructure or platform services in a customer-facing operational environment
  • Knowledge of best practices for implementing security and compliance controls in cloud environments

Why We Think You Will Love Working at Whispir:

  • Totally flexible working hours because you know how to get the most out of your day
  • Birthday paid leave
