The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company's regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part-Time Student for John Deere Electric Powertrain located in Cary, NC, you will s upport product analysis, design, and/or testing activities for electric drive components and systems used on Deere vehicles. Specific activities vary by position but will include one or more of the following responsibilities:
- Electrification system and vehicle development
- Design, analysis, vehicle integration, and testing of electric drive systems to meet vehicle performance goals
- This includes requirements, system concepting, vehicle integration and interfaces, lab testing of system performance, and vehicle testing of performance
- Li-Ion battery development
- Design, analysis, and testing of cells, modules, BMS hardware, BMS software, pack level thermal and structural design, and cell aging modeling
- Electric machine development
- Design, analysis, and testing of 250W - 200kW+ SPM and IPM electric motors, electromagnetic design, thermal design, high speed structural design, position sensing, and mechanical design

What Skills You Need
- Ideally you will be pursuing a degree in an Engineering discipline; others may apply
- Must be registered as a full-time student at a U.S. accredited college/university
- Must be of Junior standing or higher
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
- Available to work during the academic year 16-20 hours/weekly between the business hours of 8 AM to 6 PM Eastern
- Available to work during the summer semester 35-40 hours/weekly between the business hours of 8 AM to 5 PM Eastern
- Must be able to commute to the work location in Cary, North Carolina, on a weekly basis year-round (NOTE: Relocation assistance is not provided.)
What Makes You Stand Out
- Pursuing a graduate degree in an Engineering discipline
- Involvement with a club/organization that works on electric vehicles, robotics, or autonomous vehicles
- Strong candidates will have course work or research with a concentration in electric machines, power electronics, batteries, hybrid vehicles, or dynamics and control
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience testing electrical components using standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies
- Familiarity with a symbolic programming language such as Simulink or LabView
- Experience using modeling tools such as Matlab/Simulink or circuit analysis software
- Experience with electric machines, or inverters/converters/chargers, or Li-Ion batteries, or electric vehicle systems, or electric drive control systems
