Job Description
The primary responsibility of the NPI Engineer is to manage the introduction of new product launches from our design/development teams into our manufacturing plants in support of our Video analytics business. Using proven methodologies, processes and practices it will be the responsibility of this individual to work very closely with Supply Chain and Product Development teams, to implement effective, on-time product launches.
Reporting to the Director, Manufacturing Engineering for the Video business, the NPI Engineer collaborates with multiple cross functional teams throughout the organization to ensure that all stated NPI goals and objectives are achieved.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The NPI Engineer is responsible for the successful implementation of NPI launches into Manufacturing plants.
Key responsibilities include:
Develops, maintains, and reports on NPI metrics relating to stated Goals and Objectives.
Leads NPI efforts at the plant level to ensure a smooth transition of stated requirements and deliverables from product development to mass production.
Ensures that processes and techniques employed are lean, reliable, and cost effective, supportive of LEAN/CI manufacturing principles and optimization of process/product flow.
Leads inter-factory product transfers as required (Richmond, Canada to Richardson, USA and vice-versa, as well as future facilities), including the ramp up to Mass Production.
Completes timely reviews of new electrical and mechanical designs during the product development phase; communicate feedback to R&D engineering and ensure feedback is addressed.
Ensures that ‘Design For Manufacture’ DFM requirements are met during the new product development phase.
Works closely with R&D teams to create and structure ‘Bills Of Materials’ BOMs that enable an optimized and efficient manufacturing process.
Completes all R&D Tollgate phase deliverables to schedule for NPI activities, ensuring manufacturing operational needs and requirements are considered throughout the project.
Provides inputs regarding best assembly and test practices during product development phase with a view to ensuring the scalability of Production to meet growth estimates.
Determines capacity and equipment requirements based upon new product forecast, growth estimates and current capacity utilization at manufacturing plants to ensure the successful transition to mass Production.
Defines and implements production routings to employ the most efficient and cost effective assembly practices, flow and test methods; includes production line and work cell design.
Collaborates closely with the Manufacturing Engineering, Production and Quality teams to drive production test yield improvements from initial product launch
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
5 or more years’ experience in an NPI role in a manufacturing environment with electro/mechanical products.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, effective communicator at all organizational levels.
Highly organized, good attention to detail, capable of multi-tasking and following through on tasks to completion.
Possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal), able to interact with all stakeholders and act as a professional representative of the corporation.
Eagerness to operate in a dynamic fast paced environment with an ability to drive change.
Good understanding and ability to apply various Quality tools such as; APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC.
Strong background in Lean Methodologies in a high-tech production environment.
Experience with Surface-mount technology and PCBA production/testing would be considered an advantage.
Proficient in MS Office App, Google Apps, Statistical Software (such as Minitab) and a willingness to learn and utilize new tools within the organization.
Knowledge of SAP, Agile/PLM preferred.
Basic Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline.
5 or more years’ experience.
