Job Description

As a Network Architect at Octo, you will be responsible to manage a small Federal government agency's IT services and networks, and whose primary task is to manage, upgrade, and improve hardware, software, and enterprise services. This individual will serve as the overall operations manager on a multi-year, high-profile, information technology program. The Network Architect must have the knowledge and experience to create plans to assure effective management, operations, and maintenance of systems and networks, have experience managing a small team of architects, and be able to effectively leverage their skills to fulfill the client's mission.

Program Mission

Support a federal government client on operations, maintenance, monitoring of their networks and systems that are deployed across the United States. This is a distributed environment and will involve support for new technologies and solutions.

Skills & Requirements
  • Engage with program and project leaders to analyze IT system and network architectures
  • Conduct trade-off analysis of requirements against fiscal, schedule, and performance issues
  • Raise risks and issues quickly to be addressed, create mitigation strategies, and resolve issues as quickly as possible
  • Create an architectural vision for the team
  • Negotiate with stakeholders, assesses risks/opportunities of various project options, and presents recommendations
  • Provide technical, administrative, and operational leadership to assigned projects and tasks, including meeting SLAs
  • Create and manage relevant technical documentation for reference and traceability; validate documentation is accurate, complete, and meets editorial and government specifications
  • Work on and set priorities on multiple projects/tasks at once and operate in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology

  • Extensive experience coordinating with program and project leaders to analyze IT system and network architecture
  • Experience interfacing with senior-level stakeholders
  • Knowledge and skill to clearly identify strategies for addressing requirements, risks, and issues
  • Identify key concepts, factors and risks based on conversations and document these in clear and concise narrative or graphic reports
  • Thorough knowledge of architecture principles, concepts, policy, and regulations
  • Analytical skills to successfully manage technically and organizationally complex environments
  • Strong aptitude to learn and adapt to technology
  • Ability to adapt well to diverse environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly with all levels in an organization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including collaboration skills; being adept at customer relationship management
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and quality assurance skills
  • Be a team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance
  • Must be able to use a computer and have experience with the MS Office Suite
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting as needed

Desired Skills:
  • Possess one or more of the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CISSP-ISSAP, ISSEP, CEH
  • Strong knowledge of IT development, engineering, integration, and testing processes
  • Experience supporting Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General, or other Federal government agencies

Years of Experience: 10+ years of architecture experience

Education: Master's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline (or 10 additional years of experience in lieu of degree)

Location: Washington, DC (onsite at client location) Remote and on-call responsibilities may be required.

Clearance: Ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance.
