The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. With research, product development, product design, engineering, and marketing all collaborating in one organization, we’re able to quickly create meaningful features and services for millions of people around the world, resulting in joyful, long-lasting relationships with Spotify.

We believe that by thinking holistically and acting at the intersection of product, marketing and branding we’ll be able to bring scale, efficiency, and differentiation to Spotify’s growth strategy.

Our objective is to delight our fans with a differentiated experience that will drive engagement and loyalty for Spotify while maximizing our audience’s influence to recruit new users.

The Edison Group in the Freemium Mission is the experimental growth team within Spotify. We work on taking a high potential idea that can reach new audiences, running a deep-dive exploration, and building and testing it with real users; through A/B testing we take data-informed decisions to connect artists and fans.

We are looking for a thoughtful, well-rounded engineering manager to join our team and help build an application millions of people use every single day to discover and listen to music and podcasts. You will play a leading role in growing and developing engineers in a healthy and high-performing team, continuously improving our engineering practices, delivering state-of-the-art technology while keeping it fun.

Above all, your work will change the way the world experiences audio.

  • You will help to cultivate agile methodologies and foster a culture of sustainable tech health
  • You will ensure the team has a sound technology strategy
  • You will build and lead a team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
  • You will grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the things we value
  • You will build and run experiments to iterate on new and existing products while delivering many user-facing features to over 280 million users

Who you are:

  • You have proven experience in managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineers
  • You have previous experience delivering products in an agile development environment at scale
  • You love developing and growing people and have a track record doing it
  • You have a background in mobile development (iOS/Kotllin/Swift/Objective-C) and experience working in a high-growth tech company on a consumer-facing product
  • You’re passionate about software engineering best practices and love to have an impact on large-scale tech problems
  • You have a quality approach, delivering high-quality products and supporting others to maintain a high standard
  • You are comfortable working collaboratively on a cross-functional team. Working project-based, and also driving delivery on small to medium-sized initiatives
  • You enjoy learning as well as teaching others. And are passionate about your work, striving towards the goals of the team and, ultimately, the Spotify mission -- “giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it"

Where you'll be:

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location
