In this position, your responsibilities would span from mechanical and electrical subsystem architecture definition to component and subsystem integration and testing. Subsystem architecture definition for next generation platforms would include electric motors and generators, gearboxes, and combinations of hydraulic and electric actuation systems. This responsibility would also include planning and leading of component and subsystem tests within BR&T's Facility for Integration and Research of Subsystems Technologies (FIRST) lab. Depending on the capabilities of the successful candidate, this position would also involve development and implementation of a multidisciplinary model-based engineering (MBE) tool for total energy management in commercial and military aircraft systems. Support for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) and Boeing Commercial Airplane (BCA) programs is also a key responsibility for this position.Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is looking for a Mid-Level Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis Engineer (Level 4) to join the Energy & Propulsion Capability Technology Team in one of two locations, Huntington Beach, California or in the greater Saint Louis area, Berkeley, Missouri.Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads and provides technical quality review of the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid systems and thermal environment to establish the system design
  • Leads activities to validate and verify mechanical and fluid systems requirements
  • Leads the development, maintenance or modification of system components' designs/proposals to provide installation and detail documentation
  • Performs and documents analyses
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals
  • Prioritizes, delegates and tracks performance and documentation of analyses of mechanisms/landing gear/ordnance components and systems selecting appropriate methods to validate or assess the design
  • Supports proposal preparation and new business development efforts
  • Trains and coaches others
  • Works under minimal direction

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. The requirement will be a combination of on-site and remote work.This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience in mechanical engineering design and analysis

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 4+ years of experience using Model Based Engineering tools
  • Bachelor degree or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • Experience in mechanical design of rotating machines (e.g. generators, electric motors, motor controllers, etc) for aerospace applications

Typical Education/Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
