The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Autonomous Systems division is seeking a Mid-Level Hardware Design Engineer (Level 3) to provide support to the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) program, in Huntington Beach, CA. The business further supports customer missions and payloads needs through proprietary programs and by providing acoustics systems, integrated shipboard systems, tactical communications systems and advanced mission solutions.
Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) is an accredited ship-wide Platform Information Technology (PIT) control system data network that is the latest variant of Boeing's AN/USQ-82(V) family of shipboard networks. The system is designed for use on U.S. Navy Surface Combatants, Carriers and Amphibious ships including the Arleigh Burke class of destroyers, DDG-51 and follow-on derivatives, and Aegis Ashore installations.
Candidate should have experience with Navy shipboard user systems as well as experience in ruggedized digital electronic circuit card design. The candidate must have good communication skills for conveying technical approaches, trade-offs, risk assessments, and recommendations. Candidate must be able to design solutions that meet naval module signal interface and Input/Output module requirements related to Navy shipboard networks and Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) interfaces. This will require proficiency in digital logic design, high-speed signal Integrity design, FPGA and programmable logic design, derivation of requirements, simulation, trade studies, design for manufacturability, design for testability and factory support.
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes customer and system requirements to develop basic architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various electronic products.
  • Develops high-level and detailed designs consistent with requirements and specifications.
  • Validates designs through various methods of review, testing and analysis.
  • Identifies, tracks and statuses technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Supports Supplier Management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services of limited scope.
  • Provides engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Works under general direction.


This position requires an active U.S. Interim Secret or higher Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Experience in developing, capturing, and reviewing digital electronic requirements.
  • Developing /review test plans for product requirement verification.
  • Knowledge of ASICs, FPGAs, Programmable Logic designs.
  • Experience with digital logic design, high-speed signal Integrity design.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Xilinx FPGA Place/Route tools experience
  • Experience in digital logic design (gate-level & VHDL) & simulation.
  • Experience with analog circuits, power supplies, EMI protection devices.
  • Experience validating designs through various methods of review, testing and analysis.
  • Experienced developing designs consistent with requirements and specifications.
  • Experience with digital logic design, high-speed signal Integrity design.


Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Relocation:
This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
