Mechanical Engineer
Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. This role will be tasked with assisting development of one or more critical sub-systems associated with the capital equipment portion of our surgical robot.
Vicarious Surgical’s novel approach to surgery uses a combination of proprietary, human-like surgical robots and virtual reality to transport surgeons inside the patient when performing minimally invasive surgery. Our technology was granted Breakthrough Device Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which provides unique opportunities for our regulatory pathway.

Responsibilities
- Participate in all phases of product development, including user need and requirements definition, concept generation, detailed design, clinical simulation, manufacturing process development, assembly, integration, verification and validation testing
- Understand, analyze, and suggest new design improvements to existing technology
- Assist with developing, conducting, and reporting on tests to validate designs
- Work with internal machine shop and suppliers to produce prototypes and finished good parts
- Execute comprehensive verification and validation protocols
- Be a helpful, collaborative team member
Skills Needed
- Proficiency with solid modeling required, Solidworks preferred, FEA experience nice to have
- Ability to produce engineering drawings with robust dimensioning, GD&T and tolerance analyses
- Comfort with and understanding of the interplay between various components of a complex, electromechanical system
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing, Design for Inspection and various assembly techniques
- Experience with medical device product development / CFR 21 Part 820 design controls, IEC 60601 and the 510(k) submission process is very helpful
- Understanding of verification and validation activities to advance from prototype designs to finished products
- Ability to work effectively in and be a resource for a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work independently and autonomously when necessary
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and give/receive constructive feedback
- Confidence founded on sound engineering principles
About You
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mechanical or biomedical engineering role
- Passion for excellence in mechanical design and analysis
- Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and a positive attitude!
