Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned, highly motivated software development leader to join our CGM mobile app development team in our San Diego, CA office as Manager, Mobile Development. You will be leading and managing a team of Android & iOS (incl. WatchOS) mobile application software developers to successfully deliver world-class apps. This is an opportunity to join an expanding team developing a vital product for a high-growth company. This position reports to the Director of SW Development Engineering (Core Apps).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead & mentor a mobile engineering team delivering best-in-class Android and iOS mobile applications for our line of CGM medical device products
  • Work with marketing and key stakeholders to define scope of projects and seek organizational alignment
  • Develop and manage project schedules and report and resolve project issues
  • Manage completion of requirements and design documentation
  • Enforce internal software development procedures that complies with medical regulations
  • Interface with software test to ensure high quality product
  • Manage the careers of the engineers on your team and ensure their continued development


Required Qualifications:

  • Proven success mentoring mobile software development teams (Android and/or iOS)
  • Experience shipping Android or iOS applications and you are up to date on the current state of the development ecosystem
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, agile and collaborative environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - both inside and outside the engineering team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Functional Description

Directs the activities of a software applications development function for software application enhancements and new products. This position oversees the analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of computer programs for commercial or end user applications. Analyzes and investigates applications engineering tasks and prepares design specifications, analysis, and recommendations. Interacts with project managers, marketing, sales, and users to define application requirements and/or necessary modifications.

  • Knowledge and awareness spans all aspects of the specific functional area.
  • Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and knowledge of company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Develops a proficiency of the company's business / market in order to inform decisions.


Scope

  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Provides guidance to team members / supporting employees using established company policies.
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.


Judgement

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors.
  • Follows processes and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.


Management

  • Manages the coordination of department/functional activities with responsibility for results, methods and staffing.
  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.


Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 8-12 years of industry experience.
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience.


Workplace Type

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.
