The role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our Member Experiences team. The team is front and center and interacts with every part of SoFi’s products and teams. The ideal candidate is both forward-thinking and hands-on, has a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery, and is a good mentor and co-worker. We pride ourselves on a philosophy of continuous learning, and you should likewise be committed to furthering growth and providing mentorship for your team members. You will lead and develop a team to build out our social platform.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the development and testing of system components/services, code and design reviews
- Participate in shaping the technical architecture of the product
- Help translate user stories into technical solutions
- Deliver highly available and scalable services in a production environment
- Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
- Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies
- Communicate with project leads, product managers and other software developers
- Continually monitor and improve the team’s ability to deliver
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree, in a technical field
- 4+ years programming experience, ideally on a modern stack
- Our core stack isJava/ Kotlin/ Spring / PostgreSQL/ React
- 4+ years Java, Kotlin or Scala programming experience and an understanding of relational databases and ORMs suffices
- 2+ years management experience
- Maintain code quality, performance, and sound architectural principles
- Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
- Strong sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
- Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
- Experience working in a collaborative coding environment (and git specifically), refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
Nice to have:
- Experience scaling highly available, mission critical systems
- React / GraphQL experience
- Good understanding of SOLID principles
- Microservices architecture
- JUnit, Mockito, and other testing frameworks
